CONFERENCES

A big thank you to all parents and carers who attended the College Conferences on Wednesday 1st May. This was a great opportunity to discuss student learning outcomes and build partnerships between home and school. The number of conferences run continues to increase each year, however only 40% of families took the opportunity to meet with teachers (up from previous years). We would love to see this number increase further and would welcome feedback on the barriers that are prohibiting families from attending.

You will have received some communication post these conferences in Compass to recognise the conversations had, or the raising of concerns for the educational outcomes if relevant. Please review these posts in Compass and make contact with the relevant subject teacher if you would like to discuss these concerns.

REPORTS

College Reports are a way to share with families how students are progressing in their learning behaviours and academic outcomes. All Reports are accessible via Compass, however if you are having difficulty accessing these, please contact the General Office.

This term the college reporting dates are:

Week 5 Progress Reports released Tuesday 21st May.

Semester One Reports released Friday 28th June.

FORMATIVE AND SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT DATES

Formative Assessment is a ‘check in’ of the learning mid term to see how the student is progressing with the skills and knowledge. Formative Assessment Year 7-10 completed in Week 4-5.

Summative Assessment is the assessment against the Victorian Curriculum Achievement Standard(s) completed at the end of each major piece of assessment, Common Assessment Task (CAT) or Learning Task (LT). These are visible in Compass for Term 1 already and the Term 2 results will be visible in Week 11 as well as within the Semester Reports.

ASSESSMENT PROFESSIONAL LEARNING

This term the College’s Assessment focus has been on the redesigning of instructional rubrics to better support assessment of learning.  Over the remainder of 2024 the college will be testing and refining these rubrics to better identify student growth and areas for ongoing development. Look out for these rubrics attached to Learning Tasks from the end of Term 2 onwards in a selection of subjects. They will clearly show the Victorian Curriculum level the student has demonstrate the skill at, with the change in language being reflected as:

Clarification of these definitions will be included in Reporting sets later this year, as the college moves to reflect these changes over a 12 month period.

Regards,

Curriculum (Years 7-10)

Alison Dowler - Learning Specialist

We’re excited to share some updates on the happenings within the Years 7-10 Curriculum space.Recently, we have initiated a new communication approach by emailing Teaching and Learning Timeline documents directly to parents and carers. These documents outline assessment tasks and their corresponding delivery dates across all subjects for the term.

This measure aims to foster better transparency and collaboration between home and school, ensuring that parents and carers are well-informed about their child’s academic journey.

Behind the scenes, teachers continue to work hard to ensure that teaching and learning has clear curriculum links and is engaging for our students; with a focus on providing a guaranteed and viable curriculum approach.
