Next week, on Wednesday May 22 at 12pm, all classes from Prep to Year 6 will take part in the National Simultaneous Storytime. This is an annual, national event, which is celebrating its 24th successful year. It aims to encourage young children to read and enjoy books as well as teach them the value of literacy. Students across Australia in many schools will listen to the same story at the same time.
This year's featured story is CBCA shortlisted book: Bowerbird Blues by Aura Parker, which is also nominated for CBCA 2024 Picture Book of the Year.
Description of the book:
I am a collector. Always looking, finding ... and keeping! Bowerbird loves BLUE. Magnificent cobalt. Brilliant, vibrant BLUE! But something is missing. What could it be? This picture book from Aura Parker stars a beautiful bowerbird on the search for BLUE! It’s a moving story of longing and connection, that unfolds as the bowerbird’s search sends him soaring across the sea, sky and city. He swoops and snatches vibrant treasures for his collection, and soon his bower—a mix of natural and unnatural objects—attracts something greater and more fulfilling than he could ever have imagined.
Oh, how I love the sky….
And moving through
The marvellous BLUE
