Prayer
National Reconciliation Week 27th May - 3rd June 2024.
As we pray for Reconciliation, we remember that May 27 and June 3 are important dates in Australia’s history. May 27 marks the anniversary of the 1967 referendum where the nation's constitution was changed so that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were counted. June 3 1992 marks the historic Mabo decision in which the High Court of Australia recognised native title over their lands.
St Joseph’s Primary School sits on the land of the Wurrundjeri People of the Kulin Nations and we pay our respects to their elders both past and present, for they hold the memories, the culture and the wisdom upon which our nation’s future will be built. We acknowledge the strength and resilience of First Nations People and reflect on how we can all play a part in the healing process of our nation. We hope we are able to all find peace, equity and justice in God’s loving presence.

Let us pray…
Loving and gracious God, who created all people equal,
We thank you for indigenous people who have given so much to our country and our culture.
We pray that we listen to their voice as they speak of their desires, hopes and dreams for their lives and the life of this nation.
May we all commit ourselves to seeking justice for all people and show a willingness to find positive solutions that include all.
We ask this prayer in Jesus’ name.
Amen
