Positive Behaviours for Learning

At SFS, our PBL (Positive behaviours for learning) school wide expectations are:

Respect,

Responsibility and

Kindness

The whole school has a PBL lesson on a Monday at 1pm. This week we have continued to focus on RESPONSIBILITY: Think before you act. We have noticed from our behaviour data that some students are struggling with the Minor behaviours of Defiance and Disruption in the classroom. We have focused this week on using the zones of regulation to identify how we are feeling in different situations and to think of ways to regulate ourselves so that we are ready for learning and to complete work. The children have also explored the idea that our words and actions not only affect us but they also impact on what other people think and feel us. The students are being encouraged to stop and think before they react in a given situation.

Here are some of our lucky raffle PBL winners from the last week who have been demonstrating our schoolwide expected behaviours.

National Walk safely to school day

A big thank you to all the children and families who participated in National walk to school day today, Friday 10th May 2024. Despite the cold, wet, drizzly weather we had 116 students walking, riding or scooting to school!

Child Safe standards

The Child Safe Standards aim to protect children and young people, by requiring organisations to put policies, procedures and processes in place to prevent and respond to abuse. They aim to make keeping children and young people safe. There are 11 standards.

Standard 7

Processes for complaints and concerns are child focused

Your organisation must:

  •  have a complaints policy.
  • This policy must: – be easy to find and read – be child focused – explain: – what managers, staff, and volunteers must do – how to manage different types of complaints – what to do if policies or the Code of Conduct are not followed – when your organisation needs to make a report to authorities, like the police
  • make sure that children, families, staff, and volunteers all understand how your organisation manages complaints
  • handle complaints properly and in a culturally safe way
  • take all complaints seriously and respond quickly
  • have policies and procedures about: – how to report complaints to your organisation – who to report to – when to make a report – how to report complaints to, and work with, police and other authorities • follow all laws about reporting, privacy, and employment.
