Year 3

Hello from 3G

We are halfway through Term 2 and 3G has been incredibly eventful and filled with a variety of exciting activities and learning experiences. In Math, we have explored the topics of fractions, mapping, and measurement. Our journey with maps began by examining the distances our ANZACs travelled from Australia to the war fields in Gallipoli. In measurement, we learned how to measure in millimeters, centimeters, and meters. We took our learning outside, using a trundle wheel to measure distances in meters and outlining our peers’ bodies with chalk to compare heights. It was a fun and engaging way to learn about measurement! With fractions, we used various manipulatives to learn about comparing fractions, understanding fractions as parts of a whole, and identifying different types of fractions.

In Literacy, we focused on constructing well-organized paragraphs and narratives. We explored a range of indigenous texts, such as "Tiddalick the Frog" and "Welcome to Country," to identify main ideas and themes. These texts have enriched our understanding of different communities, aligning perfectly with our ongoing inquiry topic. Additionally, we enjoyed Simultaneous Reading Week, highlighted by Mr. Moorhouse reading "Bowerbird Blues" to the entire school.

We had a delightful STEM afternoon where parents joined us to design and build marble runs. This activity was part of our ongoing community project, and it was heartening to see the collaboration between students and their parents. The excitement and ingenuity displayed during this event were truly inspiring.

On May 24th, our students showed their compassion and solidarity by participating in "Touch of Blue and Green Day" to support those affected by NF tumors. Their involvement was deeply appreciated, especially as one of our own classmates in 3G is affected by this condition.

As we continue through the term, we look forward to more learning adventures and activities. Thank you for your ongoing support and involvement in your child's education.
