What's Happening In Primary

News and Information from Primary

Character First - Self-Control

On Monday during Assembly we introduced the new Character First trait of Self-Control. Character First defines Self-Control as “doing what is right, even when I don't feel like it.”

Throughout the remainder of Term 2 we will be focusing on developing this important skill through Assembly presentations, classroom discussions and partnering with families.

Below you will find the 'I Will' statements which you can use as discussion points as a family.

The five 'I Will' statements:

  • I will think before I act.
  • I will control my temper.
  • I will respect others and their belongings.
  • I will sit still and be quiet.
  • I will build healthy habits.

Our Primary spaces this week are a celebration of us! Our homes, our school family, God's word to us and beautiful creation.

Premier's Reading Challenge

This year students again have the opportunity to participate in the Tasmanian Premier’s Reading Challenge.

The challenge begins on Monday 17th June and ends on Friday 23rd August.

How many books will you read in 10 weeks? Set your personal reading goal for the Challenge and see how you go!

It doesn’t matter what you read, as long as you are reading.  You are free to choose books you want to read for the Challenge.  You can read books in a variety of formats including print, digital, audiobooks and graphic novels. For younger children, a book that is read to them counts toward their total.  Larger chapter books can be counted as more than one book.

The Tasmanian Premier's Reading Challenge is open to all students from Kinder to Year 6.

Students will need to complete a log book as part of the challenge, and all students who return a completed log book to the school office will receive a signed certificate from The Honourable Jeremy Rockliff MP Premier of Tasmania.

Log books will be sent home with students prior to the commencement of the challenge, and extras are available from the school office,  or they can be downloaded by clicking on the following link:

All completed log books are due to the school office by Friday 30th August.

Unsung Hero: The Movie

Based on a remarkable true story, Unsung Hero follows David Smallbone as he moves his family from “Down Under” to the United States, searching for a brighter future after his successful music company collapses. With nothing more than their seven children, suitcases, and their love of music, David (for KING + COUNTRY’s Joel Smallbone) and his pregnant wife, Helen (Daisy Betts), set out to rebuild their lives. Helen’s faith stands against all odds and inspires her husband and children to hold onto theirs. With their own dreams on hold, David and Helen begin to realize the musical prowess in their children, who will go on to become two of the most successful acts in Inspirational Music history: five-time GRAMMY Award®-winning artists for KING + COUNTRY and Rebecca St. James.

Founder's Day

Are you a past student, staff member, Founder or Legacy partner of DCS? We are forever grateful for all the people who have helped to build DCS over the years into the growing, thriving school it is today, and we want to honour and celebrate you!

Our Founder’s Day is a time to reminisce, share memories and celebrate, not only our Founders, but all of the past students and families who have called DCS ‘home’ over the last 32 years, and the current Legacy partners who are working with us as we progress our vision into the Secondary years.

If you have been involved at DCS as a Founder, past parent, staff member or student, are a current DCS family or are involved as a Legacy partner, we would love for you to join us for our Founder’s Day, Thursday 20th June.
