Senior School Update
Years 10 - 12
Laura Higgins
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we wrap up Term 4, there’s a palpable sense of excitement and anticipation in the air as our senior students prepare for significant transitions and celebrations. This term marks a pivotal period of reflection, achievement and preparation for the future for all our Senior Students. Year 12s are closing the chapter on their high school journey, while Year 11 students are gearing up to step into their final year with renewed goals and focus. Meanwhile, our Year 10 students are exploring new opportunities that will shape their educational paths. Each year level is embracing its unique challenges and experiences, making this a vibrant time in our Senior School community.
Year 12 – A Milestone Finish
Year 12 students are in the final stretch of their education journey with coursework finished and our ATAR students currently completing their VCE Exams, set to be completed by the 20th of November.
To celebrate their achievements, students and staff took part in a fun celebration day earlier this term. This day marked a key moment in our students lives and provided the opportunity for our Senior Staff to recognise the hard work and commitment from our Year 12 students this year and demonstrate how proud we are of them!
We look forward to formally recognising our Year 12 cohort at the Valedictory Dinner on Monday 18th November at New Peninsula Baptist Church. The evening will include a two-course dinner, speeches from students and staff, and presentations of subject, community, and leadership awards. As we say farewell to our students, we wish them every success on their journey into adulthood. We look forward to celebrating with our Year 12 families at this very special event.
Year 11 - Preparing for the Future
As Year 11 students approach the end of the coursework, many are putting in the extra effort to redeem attendance and complete outstanding tasks. This effort and commitment will serve them well as they prepare to transition into Year 12 during our Jump Start program.
Earlier this term our Year 11 cohort engaged in a Gambling Harm Prevention session, aimed at raising awareness and equipping them with tools to make informed decisions. Students learnt about the risks and pitfalls of Gaming and Gambling, along with how to manage their money once they start earning a wage.
Excitingly, Year 11 students will also have the opportunity to apply for 2025 School Captaincy positions. This leadership role is a chance for students to represent their peers, foster school spirit and contribute to our school community. Students interested in applying must do so by Friday 8th November.
Year 10 – Exploring New Opportunities
As Year 10 students near the completion of their coursework, there’s a noticeable energy as many are hustling to get across the finish line. Engaging positively with our Sign Off Sheet process, students are taking proactive steps to ensure all their assessments are submitted and requirements met. This diligence not only prepares them for the end of the year but also sets a strong foundation for their future studies.
Looking ahead, Year 10 students are preparing to transition into their 2025 courses, moving into either VCE ATAR, VCE VM, or VPC pathways. This choice marks a significant step in their educational journey, allowing them to align their studies with their aspirations and interests.
Throughout this term, Year 10 students have been actively engaged in various programs designed to broaden their horizons and prepare them for the future. Access Monash Mentoring Session provided information about the amazing mentor program offered by Monash. Students are encouraged to apply by 27th November, application link in teams. Select students participated in two ABCN sessions, Future Thinkers at WSP and Find Your Purpose at Ventia. These programs provided students with the opportunity to engage with mentors from large corporations on site in Melbourne CBD and develop skills in both Design Thinking and Future Goal Setting.
Jump Start – A New Beginning
Looking ahead, Jump Start is set to run from November 21 to November 29, offering all senior students a chance to transition smoothly into their 2025 courses. During this period, students will engage in new classes, attend informative sessions, and begin working on key tasks for the upcoming year. This initiative is designed to provide a head start, ensuring that students feel prepared and excited about the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
As we conclude Term 4, we commend our senior students for their hard work and dedication. This is an exciting time filled with both challenges and celebrations, and we look forward to seeing what the future holds for each of them!
