Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Update

Assistant Principal Update
Assistant Principal Curriculum and Reporting: Kara Dunstan and Learning Specialist Curriculum (Years 7 - 10): Alison Dowler
It’s been a busy and productive start to the term in the Curriculum space across years 7-10 for both students and teachers. By now, you will have access to students’ 5-weekly reports which were released early in week 5 which provide a valuable insight into attendance and overall student learning outcomes across our college values of Community, Achievement, Respect and Engagement.
There are a few key curriculum items to be aware of as we continue progressing through Term 4:
Weeks 5 - 6: Summative Assessment Week(s): Students are working hard to complete their Summative Assessment Learning Tasks across all of their subject areas. This is an important opportunity for students to demonstrate their understanding of the concepts covered this term and to apply their skills learnt. The assessments provide valuable insights into each student's progress, guiding both their future learning and to inform teacher planning. Parents, carers and students can view their results for these tasks on Compass and on their up-and-coming End of Semester Report.
Week 7 (Monday-Wednesday) – Feedback week (prior to the commencement of Jumpstart): Feedback week plays an integral part of the learning sequence and is a chance to celebrate the success of learners and how far they have come. Within the allocated ‘Feedback Week’, teachers allocate time to give individualised and explicit feedback to students about their growth against the Achievement Standards they were explicitly taught and assessed on.
Rubrics and student work are the basis of this feedback and an integral element, to show students how they went, why their results showed the Victorian Curriculum rating that they have been allocated and what their next steps are for this skill or content area.
Week 7 (Thursday) – Jumpstart Program Starts: Jumpstart commences on Thursday, 21st November. The main purpose of our Jumpstart program is to prepare students for the next academic year by introducing core concepts, reducing transition anxiety, and building key skills. Jumpstart not only helps enhance academic readiness but helps to foster student engagement, helps students build relationships with teachers and peers, and allows teachers to identify any support needs. Our Jumpstart program concludes on December, 6th for Years 8-9 (2025 year levels) and concludes on 29th November, for years 10-12 (2025 year levels).
