KELiS Hosting at Western Port Secondary College.
On Tuesday 15th October, we hosted the final Koorie Emerging Leaders In Schools (KELiS) program for the 2024 year.
History of KELiS:
We are an original Secondary school from when this cluster approach to student leadership started with only 4 others. Over the past 2 years, we have taken up to 8 Senior Koorie Student Leaders to a host school to take part in leadership activities which strengthen and activate their voices, pride and knowledge of culture and their roles as young leaders in their schools. It was our turn to host and of course they have saved the best for last! Usually, schools have typically outsourced the day to an external provider to run however our students Nash Jones, Lexi Rout Langdale, Jessyka Wilson, Ash Dronyrp, Austin Armstong, Monique Parsons and Toby Armstrong ran our day! Students from 16 Secondary Colleges across the Bayside Peninsula region commented on how this was the best day to date! Well done team!
Our Semester 2 Marrung Action Plan can now be viewed by our wider school community via the button below and really highlights student voice within our College.
Community Collaboration on Mural and Sports Uniforms
A big thank you to our community for providing valuable feedback to shape our upcoming Indigenous mural and sports uniform designs! We are excited to share a digitized version of our Gathering Space mural above and below which tells the Western Port story. We also have Merindah Gunya (Bayley Mifsud) joining us next Wednesday to discuss the new Inter School Sports uniform design with select students and staff and we are really looking forward to this meeting! Check out Merindah Gunya via Instagram link below:
1:1 Classroom Coaching
Our 1:1 Teacher Classroom Coaching program has successfully started with shifting our attention to supporting Year 8 teachers as they guide their students through the end of the year and prepare them for Year 9. The focus is on strengthening literacy and numeracy skills, while also incorporating engaging teaching strategies.
Peer Observations
Our Season 2 of our peer observation program has kicked off. Reflections from the team have been really positive. Looking ahead, we are currently developing a sustainable peer observation model to roll out in 2025.
Instructional Skills Observations
From Week 2 of this term, we have been visiting classes as a School Improvement Team to gather data on our Instructional Skills, SWPBS processes and implementation of our Instructional Model (The WIM). By getting into our classes and giving our teachers feedback on their pedagogy, we can see where our focus needs to shift for 2025 and this is an exciting space to be in!
Practice Meetings
Our Practice meetings this term have really focused around our knowledge of key areas; The WIM, Artificial Technology in Education and a Response to Intervention/Differentiation strategy. We will finish these this term with a staff celebration around goals achieved and vision for improvement next year.
I look forward to reporting on the back end of this term in Week 11.
Kind Regards,
Brooke Roy
