Pre-Reading : 

Undertaking a 'book walk' before reading a book together - what does the cover illustration tell us about the story? what do other illustrations tell us about the progression of the story?

Using small world set ups to retell familiar stories

Pre-Writing: 

Practising writing their names as they sign themselves in on arrival and when using the Tommy Turtle prompt to understand how to form letters.

Developing and refining their fine motor skills through a range of activities including threading, peg boards, playdough, cutting with scissors, tearing paper, pipe cleaners drawing and painting. 

Creating mini stories through their painting and drawings and offering a verbal account of the story contained within their picture.

STEM : 

Children begin to develop an understanding of complex patterns

Children explore cause and effect, through marble runs or lining dominos up and watching them fall down in succession.

Inquiry : 

Exploring the Unit of Inquiry: Sharing the Planet. 

Considering the interconnectedness that exists between living things and representing this through their artwork 

Looking at the importance of trees in the natural world - as a habitat, a food source, as a filter for the air we breathe.

Thinking about how our actions impact on the natural world around us

Social & emotional learning : 

Using calming toys and spaces to help to regulate emotions

Developing an understanding of the impact of our actions on others

Reflective discussions about the transitions we are facing as the end of year approaches.
