Creative & Performing Arts

Music Department
The Music Department has had a busy and exciting term, with students across all year groups developing their skills in performance, composition and listening. Year 7 students have been learning the guitar while building their aural and listening skills. Year 8 students have been exploring the role of music in film, analysing film scores and composing their own music to accompany a film scene. Year 9 students have completed their Global Music unit and have now begun exploring the world of Jazz. Year 10 students have been immersed in Romantic Music, K-pop and Gamelan music, with students applying their learning through the composition of their own original songs. Year 11 students have been working hard in preparation for their Preliminary HSC examinations, with a focus on Jazz. A big congratulations to Year 12 who have successfully completed their Trial HSC examinations and HSC Recital, with some fantastic performances and achievements!
Our Extra-Curricular Music program has also been thriving. Year 10 students Ciara and Princess performed an acoustic duet at the Showcase at Souths Juniors, and our JJ Dance group also performed an item. Students from Years 8-12 recently performed at the Bayside Spring Fair, providing an opportunity to share their talents with the wider community. A special congratulations goes to our Year 8 bands, who took to the stage for their very first performances - an exciting milestone for these young musicians! There is also a real buzz around the school as students begin considering what they would like to perform at our end-of-year Big Night Out concert. It has been wonderful to see so many students embracing performance opportunities and sharing their creativity both within and beyond the school.
A huge congratulations and thank you to our Music teacher Mr. LK who is leaving at the end of the term. He will be missed by staff and students alike.
Creative Arts
As we conclude another creative and dynamic term in the Visual Arts faculty, we celebrate the hard work and achievements across all year groups.
Our Year 12 students have completed their Bodies of Work, showcasing their unique artistic journeys as they prepare for their final assessments. Year 11 students are wrapping up the preliminary course and are now gearing up for the HSC next term. We wish both group luck with their upcoming exams.
In Stage 5, Year 10 students have been dedicated to completing their own Bodies of Work, while Year 9 students have been inspired by the architecture of our local area, incorporating these influences into their painting projects. Their work reflects a keen observation and interpretation of the environment around them.
Year 8 students have been recently introduced to the fascinating world of printmaking. Embracing an experimental approach, they have been creating prints using textures and shapes of native flora. With guidance from Bobbi, our horticulturalist, students have worked creatively with plants from our school gardens to produce stunning prints that celebrate natural forms.
Meanwhile, Year 7 students have been exploring mythical creatures and the imaginative process of creating hybrid forms, tapping into their creativity and storytelling through art.
Congratulations to all students for their enthusiasm and dedication to the Visual Arts this term. We look forward to seeing more inspiring work in the coming months!
