English, Drama & LOTE

As another term draws to a close, the English, Drama and Languages Faculty is delighted to recognise the outstanding engagement and achievements of our students across a wide range of activities and learning initiatives.
In English, the focus has been firmly set on supporting our Year 12 students as they prepare for their upcoming HSC examinations. After completing their trial exams, our Year 12s have shown great determination, perseverance and maturity in their approach to revision and exam practice. Staff have been working closely with students, offering personalised feedback and guidance to help them reach their full potential. To the graduating cohort, we extend our warmest congratulations and best wishes as you embark on the next chapter of your lives, whether that be at university, in the workforce, or exploring new opportunities. Quoting the timeless wisdom of William Shakespeare: “Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we oft might win, by fearing to attempt.” We encourage you to believe in yourselves and embrace every new challenge with courage and optimism.
Meanwhile, our Year 11 English students have completed their final exams for the Preliminary course. This milestone marks the completion of the first stage of their senior studies, and we commend them for their effort and dedication throughout the year. Staff are busy analysing results and celebrating the academic growth and improvement shown by so many students.
The Drama department has had a particularly vibrant term, with our Year 12 HSC Drama students presenting their individual and group performances to the HSC examiners within the school. The performances displayed an impressive range of creativity, teamwork, and theatrical skill, reflecting many months of rehearsal, script development, and refinement. It is wonderful to see students express themselves on stage, sharing their stories and talents with passion and confidence.
The Languages faculty is equally proud of our Year 8 Spanish students, who recently completed their oral assessments. This term has seen growing confidence and enthusiasm as students used their language skills to express ideas and hold conversations in Spanish. Teachers have noticed the improvement in fluency and pronunciation, and are thrilled to see students actively engaging with new cultures and ways of communicating.
Across Years 7 and 8, English students have been working on developing their writing portfolios as part of our new assessment initiatives. These portfolios encourage students to explore a range of genres and forms, building their creative and analytical skills while fostering a love of writing. Year 9 English classes have embarked on persuasive writing and public speaking tasks, delivering speeches about how they would change the world. These important activities allow students to voice their opinions, develop critical thinking, and gain experience speaking confidently before their peers.
Year 10 students have taken a deep dive into the world of power and corruption by studying Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Through this classic text, students are exploring powerful themes that continue to resonate in our society today, including ambition, morality, and the consequences of our actions. Class discussions and creative assessments have led to impressive insights and interpretations from our students.
It has been a busy and rewarding term, and we are grateful to all our students for their enthusiasm, curiosity and commitment to growth. We thank parents and caregivers for their ongoing support and partnership in the education journey.
On behalf of the English, Drama and Languages Faculty, we wish everyone in our school community a safe, restful and relaxing holiday break. We look forward to seeing you refreshed and ready for another successful term ahead.
