Deputy Principals' Address

Mr. Mifsud
FAREWELL YEAR 12
We would like to bid our current Year 12 students a fond farewell. For you, the past six years may have felt like a long journey, but for us adults, they have certainly flown by! It has been an interesting six years filled with stories, events, experiences and opportunities, including the return to school after COVID isolation.
I know I speak for all staff when I say it has been wonderful watching this group grow into confident young adults, ready to take on the next chapter of their lives. It has been our pleasure to have them as part of our school community, and we invite them back anytime to catch up, tell us about their adventures, or simply say hello.
We thank Year 12 for their positive role modelling and for the way they have embraced and supported our school culture of inclusivity through music, sport, cultural dance and involvement in school events. The next group of student leaders have big shoes to fill, particularly when it comes to modelling school spirit, encouraging others, showing passion and generously giving their time.
Year 12, 2026 has been a fantastic year group, developing strong friendships, connections and relationships throughout their time at school. We look forward to seeing you again and hearing all about your exciting new adventures.
We also thoroughly enjoyed the Year 12 Graduation Ceremony and Dinner. It was a wonderful way to farewell our graduating students and celebrate their achievements together as a school community.
Congratulations to Year 11 on completing their Preliminary HSC examinations and moving into their HSC courses at the beginning of Term 4. We look forward to continuing to support them in their learning and development.
HSC examinations commence Tuesday 13 October.
All students return on Tuesday 13 October for Term 4.
Have a wonderful break, everyone!

STEAM Awards Program and Awards Evening – Excellence in Action
This term, we proudly hosted our annual Primary School High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) STEAM program, culminating in a memorable Awards Evening. Now in its fourth year, students from Botany, Eastlakes, Gardeners Road and Mascot Public Schools joined us for an intensive three-week challenge, working in mixed teams to design, build, and race solar-powered cars.
Throughout the project, students moved from shy first introductions to vibrant teamwork, designing logos, constructing their cars, and compiling project portfolios. Supported by our staff from Science, HSIE, Visual Arts, and Industrial Arts, and mentored by JJ Cahill students, participants explored key concepts in design, aerodynamics, engineering, teamwork, and resilience.
Race Day was a highlight, with all teams demonstrating creativity and determination, culminating in a close competition won by the Speedy Speedsters. The Awards Evening celebrated every student's achievements, creativity, and collaboration, with families and teachers joining to recognise their outstanding efforts and growth.
Special thanks to all participating primary schools, dedicated staff, student mentors and families for your support, leadership and enthusiasm. This project stands as a true celebration of STEAM learning at JJ Cahill.
Primary School Taster Lessons – Strengthening Community Connections
Year 4 and 5 students from our partner primary schools enjoyed taster lessons across HSIE, English, Music, Science, Drama, and TAS. Our Year 12 SLR students also led sport sessions, showcasing outstanding leadership and inspiring younger students. Thank you to all staff who delivered these engaging lessons to our students.
Bayside Spring Fair – Community Spirit
The Bayside Spring Fair once again brought our community together, celebrating diversity with music, food, entertainment and stalls. Our JJ Cahill Band performed, and our P&C and SRC led school stall was a wonderful chance to promote our school while connecting with students, families and locals.
Community Garden Day – Growing Together
On 19 September, families and community members joined us to grow our award-winning school garden. The collective effort and sausage sizzle made for a memorable day and reflected our strong school-community partnership. Thank you to all who supported this day.
Farewell Year 12
Congratulations to our Year 12 students for their leadership, commitment and positive contributions. You will be sorely missed, and we wish you every success in your HSC and beyond.
