TEENS ON THE JOB

YEAR 10 WORK EXPERIENCE

On Monday 5th August, 161 year 10 students undertook Career Experience for a week.  Students worked a wide variety of organisations such as : ANZ Bank, Bayley House, BHP, Brighton VET Hospital, BSGM Building Surveyors, Caroline Counsel Family Lawyers, DKO Architecture, Echelon Productions, Greencross Veterinary Clinic Caulfield, Kiama Landscapes, Maroulis & Co Accounting, Myer Melbourne, National Institute of Circus Arts, Office of Zoe Daniels, Skin Depth Dermatology, SKS Technologies, Teri Weston Beauty, The Costume Department At Stage School Australia, Valued Health Osteopathy and Worley Engineering.

This year our international students were given the opportunity to participate in the program.

The Career Experience program allowed students to

  1. Relate school studies with a workplace.
  2. Get an insight into the diversity of employees in the workplace.
  3. To obtain an understanding of the demands and expectations of the working world.
  4. Improve students’ maturity, confidence, and self-reliance.
  5. Provide a link between school and local community.
  6. Provide students with appropriate knowledge, skills and attitudes concerning both paid and unpaid work.

The overall feedback from visiting teachers and employers on student performance was extremely positive and I congratulate all the year 10 students on demonstrating such a positive attitude to the job.  Employers were asked to complete a competency- based student evaluation form. The assessment indicated that overall our students presented well, were very compliant, were able to work well with other staff members, had good communication and interpersonal skills and most importantly showed great initiative. Students are advised to keep the Employer Evaluation Forms as part of their resume folio for future reference in seeking casual, part- time employment or for gaining further work experience.

Below are Employer Evaluations and Student feedback from their visiting teacher.
