HOLOCAUST MUSEUM EXCURSION

On Thursday, August 1st, the Year 9 ELHES and I&E classes embarked on a meaningful excursion to the Melbourne Holocaust Museum (MHM) as part of their Humanities studies and their study of WWII. The visit was a profound educational experience, highlighted by an exceptionally well-run session from start to finish.

Upon arrival, the students were warmly greeted, and the day’s program was clearly outlined, setting the stage for a deeply engaging learning experience. The “In Touch with Memory” session offered students a personalized approach to history, enabling them to explore the Holocaust through individual perspectives.

The students interacted with the “Everybody Had a Name” exhibition, which focused on Melbourne-based Holocaust survivors and their stories. This exploration not only deepened their understanding of the historical events but also underscored the relevance of Holocaust education in today’s world. They were inspired by the survivors’ stories of bravery, fairness, kindness, and hope, and reflected on their own roles and the impact of their choices on others.

A highlight of the excursion was meeting Vivienne Spiegel, a Holocaust survivor who shared her personal journey with the students. Her testimony provided a powerful and moving insight into the realities of the Holocaust, further enhancing the students' engagement and reflection.

We extend our sincere thanks to everyone involved in organizing and supporting this enriching experience. The students left with a greater appreciation for history and the enduring importance of empathy and awareness.
