WHALE SNOT?
As part of the Ecosystems unit, year 7 students listened to a TED talk by scientist Vanessa Pirotta, who’s work involves collecting mucus release from a whale’s blowhole using drone technology.
Students then conducted an experiment where they tested the pH, glucose and protein levels in whale ‘snot’ and compared their results to baseline data to determine if the whale was healthy.
Needless to say, students had a Whale of a time while learning a bit about the importance of science in conservation.
