PRINCIPAL REPORT
“Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success” Henry Ford
Spring is almost upon us, and we’re already looking forward to VCE season and preparation for 2025…how quickly the year goes! I’ve been delighted to see our students starting to take more of the lead in a range of initiatives and ideas to improve our college, and in my conversations with families, it is clear that our community is looking ahead with positivity and a renewed sense of energy and enthusiasm.
The BSCCC’s recent social drinks and coffee morning have provided opportunities for families to continue to get to know each other, and I have loved the chance to meet more of you, to talk about the work we’re doing, and to learn more about our community.
For our students, the past few weeks have been focused on engaging in a range of novel and fun activities through science week, book week and arts week. Speed painting, cake baking, ‘teach the teacher chemistry’ and music performances in the amphitheatre are some of the activities that have added a fun dimension to our days and enabled us to showcase the different experiences each subject discipline brings. Our recent Songmakers workshop also highlighted the talented musicians we have in our midst; included in this edition of Highlights is one of the songs created through the workshop and I know you’ll be as impressed as I was to hear the work our students produced.
Taking the lead, two weeks ago our college captains ran a two day leadership camp for our aspiring student leaders. With a focus on sharing and developing leadership skills and insights, over 40 students came together at the newly opened Brighton Life Saving Club to engage in some deep thinking and creative activities relating to leadership. Our college captains were the creators and organisers of the camp, beautifully modelling their leadership by enhancing opportunities for our future student leaders. I extend an enormous thank you to our captains, as well as to our guest speakers - Mike Zervos OAM and Toni Joel OAM - for giving their time and expertise to make these days so successful.
As the warmer weather approaches, it is wonderful to see our community coming together, keeping together and beginning to work together with purpose.
Warm regards,
Anne Stout
