STEM-'Species Survival'

STEM- Science Week at Fitzroy P.S

Last week students celebrated Science week with the focus ‘Species Survival’.

Foundation students went outside to look for leaves that had been eaten by caterpillars and Year one and two students studied insects which they then recorded on an annotated drawingAnother 1 /2  group constructed boats to test for buoyancy as part of their Inquiry unit.

In STEM class in their unit on Space and the night sky, all Year Ones and Twos were excited to use a Qr code to access a website where they looked at constellations, constructed them on geoboards and recorded them. Some students decided to create and name their own constellations!

Years three and four looked at the ’Changing Earth’s Surface’ and how this affects habitats and species survival. Years five and six focussed on ‘Climate Change’ and how this is affecting species needing to move to new environments or adapt to ensure their survival. Next week they will make a bionic hand as they look at paralympians and STEM applications in real life.
