Student Learning

Learning Across the School

There has been some excellent learning occurring across the school over the last couple of weeks.

Foundation

The Foundation students have been continuing their understanding of the English sounds, including the use of plurals by adding ‘s’ to words. They have been reading in small groups with  Fabienne and completing a range of literacy tasks. It has been exciting to hear the students reciting the play ‘Les Trois Petits Cochons’ (The Three Little Pigs) in French with Lorene as well as creating their own version through pictures and oral language. In Art, the Foundation students painted paper to create petals for their flowers.

1/2

The 1/2 students have been continuing their exploration of different forces through their inquiry learning. Students have taken their understanding of forces to include gravity and its affect on the earth. In Numeracy lessons, students explored fractions through collections of objects and then moved to using directional language to locate items.

3/4

On Napier Street, the 3/4s have been busy completing the PLC inquiry cycle around the use of quotation marks. The team noticed that students could improve their narrative writing by including the use of dialogue and quotation marks. In French, students investigated the Wonders of the World and produced a project on a chosen wonder. They finished the story of ‘Tracassin’ (Rumpelstiltskin) and began making their props for the play performance.

5/6

The 5/6 students have had another busy week working through essential learning skills that will support their transition from Year 5 to Year 6 and Year 6 to Year 7. This includes, analysing pieces of writing to find the essential information, using the Writing Workshop model to collect ideas and develop pieces of writing that are of interest to them and using problem solving skills to solve numeracy problems. It was another busy few weeks with the soccer clinic and the students are excited for their final match against each other in the last week of school.
