Junior School Update
Book Week
Book Week is always a special time at Shelford, and we enjoy running exciting events such as author visits and the Book Week Parade. We love celebrating the special place reading has in our lives, in and out of school.
Character Parade
It was fabulous to see all the Junior students in their costumes; we had heroes, villains, and of course the odd princess! The students enjoyed sharing with their peers in the morning and the whole school at lunchtime.
The following girls were awarded a prize for their efforts: Matilda B, Grace L and Zara M
A special mention goes to Katerina B, Clemence D and Holly H for their group dress-up from The Lorax.
The Book Week parade was on Monday and it was VERY fun, I enjoyed all of it! I came in a trio from the Lorax. What I really enjoyed was everyone laughing when they saw us because our costumes were so funny! The Parade was the best part, it was great seeing Shelford come together to show off their amazing costumes. Although it is sad that it was Shelford's last Book Week it was extraordinary because of all the fun, laughter and joy that we had. - Clemence D
Author Visit
On Monday our Year 3 to 6 students were fortunate enough to have a literary session with Gabrielle Wang, author and illustrator, and the Australian Children's Laureate 2022 to 2023. Gabrielle’s novels are loved by many Shelford students, particularly her first children’s novel, The Garden of Empress Cassia.
'Meeting Gabrielle Wang was an exciting day! I really enjoyed how she told us the first chapter of her unreleased book, which I now need to read when it publishes. She also talked about how she got the ideas of her books, including information about the 'witch's house' and her best friend. I learned how to draw Peng which is a lion dragon that Gabrielle has created. I thought the meet was a very fun way to learn about writing stories and drawing. I would love to have her back!' - Alicia N Year 6
Matilda JR Thank you
Wow! Wasn’t this production just incredible! One of our matinee audience members commented that it was ‘as good as Broadway’ and we couldn’t agree more.
Thank you to the classroom teachers for their endless encouragement, assistance and support, for their flexibility in adjusting their teaching program to support this production and for their immaculate care of all their students.
Thank you to Kirsten Ehrenberg, Andrew Zhang, Anna Noonan and Lisa Clarke, who play quiet and efficient roles behind the scenes of all our productions at Shelford!
Thank you to the wonderful Senior School students who have made up the backstage crew. Your commitment and investment in this production have been invaluable. We also thank the incredibly creative and industrious Erin Juers for her support of the cast and crew.
Thank you to our Junior School parents, who generously celebrate all the children on the stage, and who have taxied them to and from rehearsals and performances, and no doubt, learned all the words to the songs that you’ve been hearing on infinite repeat at home over the last few weeks!
Thank you and congratulations to this sensational cast. It has been a joy to see how you have made something so joyful this year, it is a testimony to your resilience, persistence and character to showcase your talents in such a spectacular fashion.
Finally, to the tireless musical masterminds who pulled it all together: Kelsey Holden, Director and Choreographer, Anya McLeod, Musical Director and Stephanie Veber, Performing Arts teacher. You have been quite simply amazing, and we are so grateful to you for making the final Shelford Junior School production this glittering and gargantuan success. Thank you and congratulations to you.
