As I write this newsletter article, the sun is shining and there is a hint of Spring in the air. With the slightly warmer and longer days, there seems to be a renewed sense of energy and enthusiasm around the school, that is a joy to be amongst. It is though yet another reminder of how quickly this year is passing, if only there was a way to slow it all down!
Our final Junior School musical production of Matilda Jr was something that I had been looking forward to since it was announced last year, and it certainly did not disappoint! It brought me so much joy (and tears!) to see our youngest students on the stage. The show was a wonderful celebration of the incredible talent, commitment, and creativity of our Junior School students. I believe it is both fitting and poignant that Matilda Jr was our final show, as Matilda herself teaches us the importance of being strong and courageous especially when life doesn’t seem fair. These qualities certainly resonate very deeply amongst Shelford students.
Putting a show together of this quality and scale does not happen without many, many, hours of planning, sourcing, and making props and costumes, scheduling, and rehearsals. I am incredibly indebted to and grateful for the hard work, energy and creativity of Kelsey Holden, Director/Choreographer/Producer and Anya McLeod, Music Director. I am in awe of the work that they put into this production over many months. Heartfelt thanks to the cast and crew for their commitment and to the many people behind the scenes who brought such a fantastic production of Matilda Jr to life.
Well done to our Senior School Parliamentarians, who ran a very successful Bake Sale for the Robert Connor Dawes Foundation. It was wonderful to witness such a well organised and planned event that resulted in raising considerable funds for such a wonderful cause. Congratulations to Octavia T, our Student Voice Prefect who expertly and passionately coordinated the event. Thank you also to the many Junior and Senior students as well as staff who contributed to the event by purchasing and sampling the array of delicious goods on sale!
On 10 October we will host Remembering Shelford commencing at 7.00pm and on 20 November our final Presentation Evening will be held at Robert Blackwood Hall. Both of these events will be an opportunity for the Shelford community to come together to honour and celebrate our wonderful School. Please mark these dates in your calendar; further details will be provided in the coming months.
