Assistant Principal Message
From the Assistant Principal
Dear Parents and Carers,
There have been a few important compass messages that have been sent home recently and I'd like to share these with you here.
School Attendance
Our Lady Star of the Sea School is committed to providing a safe and supportive learning environment for all students. From time to time students may be absent from school due to illness or unforeseen circumstances. However, it is also important to note that missing one day of school per week equates to 2 months of lost learning over the course of a year!

To support regular school attendance, it is important that parents promptly explain their child's absence. The SCS Attendance Policy requires parents/carers to:
To assist with this, next week an SMS will be sent to your mobile daily if they have been marked absent for the day for you to easily explain the absence. Additionally an email will be sent every fortnight to follow up on any unexplained absences, along with instructions on how to explain your child's absence via Compass.
We appreciate your support with this new routine.
Walker Safety
It has come to our attention that some of the students who are walking before and after school may be showing some inattentiveness before they enter or leave the school grounds. We would like to remind all parents and carers that the school is not responsible for the safety of these students once they have left the grounds of the school.
It is kindly asked that you take some time to speak with your children and remind them about the importance of safety and the importance of being aware of your surroundings when walking, crossing the road, or even waiting for lights. Whilst it can be very tempting to listen to music or use your phone we would like to remind everyone about being aware and responsible.
Your support in this matter is much appreciated.
