2024 Ensembles Report
On 13 and 14 August, the Girton Grammar School Music Department staged two fantastic Ensembles Evenings.
On Tuesday night, at the Senior School Ensembles Concert, the evening began with an explosion of sound from the Symphony Orchestra. Following this, the audience was treated to many diverse and interesting musical styles, as the various groups displayed their work from the year. The String Orchestra, Concert Band, Guitar Ensemble, Big Band and our Senior School choirs were all featured, as well as a delightful set from the Jazz Band in the foyer at interval. The evening closed with our Wind Symphony, who sent the audience on their way with a toe-tapping rendition of cartoon themes.
The following evening, the Junior School Ensembles Concert featured every student from Years 3 to 6. The concert opened with the Massed Choir performing 'The Rhythm of Life'. Following this, the audience was treated to performances by our choirs, String Orchestra, Concert Band and unique Bell Choir. The evening closed with the Massed Choir returning to the stage to perform 'I Still Call Australia Home' with the Junior School Orchestra. This item moved many of the audience members, and it was a thrill for the performers on stage as well.
These evenings were ably led by our Head of Senior School Music, Mr Josh McGuffie, and our Head of Junior School Music, Mrs Laura Dusseljee. We are so thankful to all the staff who dedicated their time to organising and enabling these performance opportunities, and we are deeply grateful to the parents who supported the students in the audience. These nights are a special tradition in our school calendar and are certainly not to be missed.
