From the Head of Junior School
'Reading is Magic' is the theme of Book Week 2024. It certainly is magic, and we have seen that this week as our students have celebrated Book Week in Junior School.
It was wonderful to see the excitement in our students' eyes when they danced in the gate on Tuesday and ran excitedly to the Junior School Library for the Books and Bickies morning. One of our students was so excited for the event, she forgot her school bag! I am sure she would have gladly spent the day in the library reading to her heart's content.
On Wednesday, the excitement continued with our annual Book Week parade. While the weather was not kind, Mrs Polidano adapted to the conditions and arranged a parade tour through the Library and d’Helin building. Seeing the number of parents who came in to watch, it was clear that it was not just the students who were excited for the parade! Thank you to our Junior School parents and carers for coming along to the event, or for supporting behind the scenes by sourcing and constructing the wonderful costumes.
Year 3 to 6 students, under the direction of the Junior School music staff, performed in the Junior School Ensembles Evening on Wednesday 14 August. It was a wonderful display of talent, with over 250 of our Junior School students performing. Performances included choirs, strings, percussion, woodwind, brass and a Junior School combined orchestra.
The performers should be very proud of their efforts and impeccable behaviour on such a busy evening. Thank you and congratulations to our wonderful musicians, led so ably by our Junior School Head of Music, Mrs Laura Dusseljee, and the Junior School music teachers. It was a terrific evening.
