In many rural countries such as Samoa, some schools don’t have enough money to go and buy books. After hearing about this situation and learning that some friends of Mrs Lough were going to visit Samoa, the J.S.C representatives from grade 3 -6 had a meeting. They found this very sad that many kids were not able to read books.
In response to this situation, we all met to approve that some of the money the J.S.C had raised in prior years would go towards buying books for a school in Samoa. Along with this, some of the J.SC students decided to include handwritten letters. The letters talked about CGPS and a bit about each of the students.
Recently, we heard back from the visitors who took the books over to Samoa. They were so happy they could be part of this and said that it was an amazing experience. As they entered the school they were given garlands of fresh flowers and a traditional sarong. As they walked into the hall a big assembly was set up with all the children sitting down listening. The students sang and danced and made the visitors very welcome.
The teachers and students were very grateful to CGPS and some of the students at the school will be writing letters back. We look forward to hearing how everyone at the school is enjoying the new books!
