Principal's Report

Term 2 Comes to a Close

We’re coming to the end of term 2, which has been successful on many fronts.  We look forward to finishing off with Parent Teacher Interviews and a bit of fun on Pyjama Day.

At the close of each term, it’s always nice to reflect on key achievements.  Highlights that come to mind from term 2, include:

  • Loads of sport (interhouse, division & regional cross country events and division soccer, bowls, netball & AFL competitions)
  • We had school photos.
  • We ran a successful book fair.
  • The Prep Team ran a well-attended information night for prospective families.
  • Japan day was enormous as usual.
  • We ran very successful Mother’s Day breakfasts and a Mother’s Day Stall.
  • Our STEM Extension and SC2 kids began involvement with the Raising Rarity Project.
  • Our Bulldogs Read and Young Authors programs are ticking along nicely, as are all the scholarship programs.
  • Our Tuning Into Kids parent sessions have been well attended and appreciated.
  • We’ve had some awesome presentations from kids at assembly, resulting in an uptick in parent attendance, which is nice to see.
  • The 5-6s enjoyed their excursion to VSSEC.
  • The year 4s were part of a fun camp at Anglesea.
  • Tracey and her team ran another successful sausage sizzle event which always proves to be popular.
  • We’ve kick started planning for the concert.

Features on the calendar for term 3 include:

  • Obviously the concert is our big ticket item for term 3, but other key events on the calendar include:
  • The 5-6 Camp to Halls Gap in week 4.
  • Principal for a Day, which will be fun as always.
  • More sport (state cross country & division basketball)
  • Mr Skilbeck has the band performing the Moorabool Kid’s Day Out event in Bacchus Marsh.
  • EBT training will no doubt kick up a gear as the event draws closer.
  • Swimming lessons commence in week 8.
  • We have our Father’s Day Breakfasts and stall happening in week 8.
  • Our Japan trip crew will be taking off on September 7.
  • We finish off the term with our popular Celebration of Learning event, footy colours day and another sausage sizzle.

After a nice 2 week break, we look forward to tackling all of the above in July, August & September.  A link to the term 3 activities calendar for term 3 can be found below:

Pyjama Day on Friday

We like to finish the term with a casual dress day, which doubles as a fundraiser for an

external beneficiary.  The kids are particularly looking forward to this one, being a pyjama day.

The VOTS Team has the responsibility of selecting who the money will go to, and on this occasion have gone with Fight MND.  To support this fundraiser, children are invited to come along with a gold coin on Friday.

Somers Camp Selections

As expected, interest in Somers Camp has been strong, significantly exceeding the number of spaces we have been allocated.  This will make decision making difficult, but we will get this done and have decisions communicated to the relevant families by the end of this week.

Thank youfrom EBT

Buninyong Primary School warmly thanks the Community Bank Buninyong and the Buninyong Mt Helen Lions Club for their generous support of our Energy Breakthrough Human Powered Vehicle (HPV) Expansion Project. Together, their combined contributions totalling $10,000 will enable the purchase of an additional competition‑ready Trisled Skyhawk HPV, which will enable more students to participate in our Energy Breakthrough program. We deeply appreciate their commitment to fostering innovation, teamwork, and community spirit — values that strengthen both our school and the wider Buninyong community.

Concert Update

As previously mentioned in newsletters, next term we have the whole school concert.

The concert routine is as follows:

·         Wednesday August 26 - Full Dress Rehearsal

*   Takes up most of the school day

·         Thursday August 27 – Matinee followed by an Evening Performance

*   Matinee starts at approximately 10:30am and we bus the students back to school in time for the end of day pick up.

*   Evening performance starts at 6pm

·         Friday August 28 – Evening Performance

*   Starts at 6pm

To run the concert and meet Time in Lieu requirements for teachers and educational support staff, the school council have approved the proposal for school times for the concert week to be altered and there will be no school during the day on Friday, August 28.  Base 1270 will operate on this day for families who require childcare.

Works Happening Over the Term Break

We always like to use breaks as an opportunity to get a few things done.  Over the next 2 weeks the focus will be on:

  • Painting – The plan is to paint as many of the classrooms in the junior quad (grade 1 & 4 classrooms) as possible.  This will make an enormous difference to these spaces.
  • Carpet - We have quite a few boxes of carpet squares to lay in the BER.  These are left over from repairs following a flood in that building 2 years ago.
  • Cleaning of Synthetic Turf - A contractor is coming in to pressure wash, brush and add sand to the soccer pitch and the area in front of the BER. This will rejuvenate these spaces, especially areas that have become slippery.
