Intercultural Partnership with Together for Humanity
I’m delighted to let you know that BSPS will be partnering with not-for-profit organisation, Together for Humanity (TfH) and University of Melbourne academics on a 6-month intercultural understanding project next semester. The TfH vision is for an Australia where racism and prejudice have been eliminated and all young people feel that they belong. “Insieme per l'umanità” are very much aligned with our BSPS vision for all students to live meaningful and rewarding lives; valuing and being valued as members of diverse communities. Our school value, Compassion, holds inclusion and understanding at its core.
Funded by the Commonwealth Department of Education, the project will include teacher professional learning for BSPS staff led by UoM experts around intercultural understanding through culturally responsive language education. The project will also give us access to engaging student workshops designed to develop empathy, mutual acceptance and a strong sense of belonging. Stay tuned for updates as the project gets underway!
Slated for improvement
Now that everything on the ground has been finished, the building project is moving on up. Scaffolding is being progressively constructed right around the main building, ready for extensive repairs to the 140 year old slate roof. The bulk of the work will take place over the holiday break, and is expected to be completed around Week 4 of Term 3. Internal painting to sections of the Junior Building will also be happening during the holidays, followed by sections of the main building over the September holidays.
In other news, new bike/ scooter parking is now available for juniors behind the portables to help ease the squeeze in the bike shed. Finally, the senior boys bathroom in the main building will also be getting a much-needed facelift over the break.
It has been so rewarding to see all these exciting upgrades come about over the past two years, thanks to the generosity of our school community.
As we approach the holiday break, I would like to thank our students, staff and families for their ongoing support and partnership throughout the term. I wish everyone a safe, restful and enjoyable holiday, with time to relax, recharge and enjoy special moments with family and friends.
Ciao for now,
Kristie
