Trade Readiness Program
Offering students opportunities to explore different careers and workplaces helps them to see what is possible. Ethan Harris, Year 12, was one of ten students accepted into TransGrid’s Trade Readiness Program, delivered in partnership with the Regional Industry Education Partnerships (REIP). The program is designed to inspire informed career decisions, improve work-readiness, and strengthen pathways from education into employment within the energy and infrastructure sector.
This immersive three-day program provided meaningful exposure to the electricity transmission industry, practical hands-on experience, and direct connections to local employers. Students also enjoyed site visits, and opportunities to work with their peers and industry representatives. Our thanks to TransGrid and RIEP for this opportunity.

Girls Can Too!
Year 10 students Charlee Scriber and Aaliyah Russell-Hughes have been undertaking the Girls Can Too! Program. The Program introduces female high-school students to careers in traditionally male-dominated trades and connects them with trade employers. Girls Can Too! was created and delivered by the Regional Industry Education Partnerships (RIEP) program within Training Services NSW.
Steve Forbes-Taber reported, Charlee and Aaliyah had a great day, and had the opportunity to visit local businesses including Flipscreen Australia, ICG Construction (both the headquarters and on-site at the social housing project in Glenfield) and Thomas Bros Toyota. The girl’s graduation included a Pizza lunch at TAFE where they received their certificates and some goody bags.
I was proud of their accomplishments, their excellent manners and enquiring nature. They now have an opportunity for some valuable work experience in a chosen industry area which may lead to future employment.

Year 12 Explores Education With CSU
Our Year 12 students continue to explore their options for life after school. Recently, representatives from Charles Sturt University School Engagement Program visited our College to present an informative session on careers, courses, University pathways and early offers.
Mr Steve Forbes-Taber, Teacher/Careers Adviser, said:
It is important for our students to hear that they can access these pathways with CSU throughout their lives, not just straight after school, and students also have access to free “pre-university” courses via Study Link. There were lots of great questions from our students, who were clearly interested in pursuing tertiary education.
Ms Clarke and Mr Forbes-Taber who arranged the event expressed their deep appreciation of the resources and information provided by the CSU Team and are grateful for their long-standing partnership with the College.

Made for a Trade
In the previous edition of College Connections, we reported on the Made for a Trade (M4AT) Semester 1 Program, where students gain hands on practical experience across a range of trades and careers through TAFE NSW, RIEP (Regional Industry Education Partnerships - Training Services NSW) and GTES.
Jobe Van Berkel and Elijah Kinning are our two student participants. Last week the students completed the program which included a one-day industry site tour and training in different trades each Friday including electrical, painting and decorating and tiling.
Congratulations to Jobe and Elijah for completing the Program. Below some images of their handiwork.
