Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden 2026

The 2026 school year has begun, and 3/4M have been the fortunate class to commence the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program. We have been incredibly lucky to receive strong support from a number of volunteers, which is especially wonderful following the long summer break.
Unfortunately, the hot and dry summer conditions have taken their toll on our vegetable gardens and orchard areas. The garden beds have dried out, weeds have taken over, and we are now working from the ground up. Over the coming weeks, we will gradually strip back and revitalise each garden bed with fresh soil and weed mats to help manage persistent pests.
In the kitchen, students have been busy preparing favourite dishes while also experimenting with new flavours. It has been fantastic to see their enthusiasm return, particularly their willingness to taste and try new foods.
A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful volunteers: Jeff (Annabelle’s Dad), Diana (Christopher’s Mum), Christian (Isabella’s Dad), Rosi (Gia’s Mum), Leanne (Aria’s Mum), Teresa (Aria’s Nonna), Alisha (Pia’s Mum), and Wendy (Atticus’ Mum). Your support is greatly appreciated and makes a significant difference to the success of the program.
Arigatou!
Mrs Tammie Siegert

Student Reflections:
Atticus - Today at SAKG I made the bread, I was in the tomatoes and I was crying because of the onions we used. We also had capsicum for toppings.
Aria - Today I made pasta with my mum and Nonna. I was in the tomato group. I didn’t like the touch of zucchini or capsicum. I helped collect the cut vegetables in a bowl. Last Tuesday, we made bread rolls and used yoghurt and flour. I got the rolling pin and rolled the mixture. I helped clean up.
Thalia - This week I made bread and I cut up spring onions.
Emilia - We cooked today. It was really fun except for the bit where I got sticky dough all over my hands. I love to cook, it's one of my favourite hobbies. It helps me relax and stay calm. Also every weekend it gets better, better and better, and I hope it tastes as good as it smells.
Hayden - Today I cut onions. My eyes were really stingy. I also cut capsicums and spring onions.
Olivia - Stephanie Alexander is a kitchen program for kids up to year 3 to year 4. It’s for all your kids to grow up to be responsible and smart children. Your children will have lots of fun in the SAKG program.
Daniel - I got the salad. I'm lucky I didn't cut the onions. I mixed lettuce, olives, vinegar, sugar, olive oil and tomatoes.
Isabella - I made dip last week. We made this dip. I forgot the name but it was a salmon color with no salmon. This week I made the main meal. It was like sausage rolls but healthy with spinach and onion plus I know how to polish with milk. My lovely dad helped with week two.
Marisol - Today was the start day of SAKG. We were cooking salad with cucumber, tomato, onion but when I made the onion I cried really badly. But I can't wait to eat it.
Pia - Hi, I'm Pia. I'm in the Eggplants group today. We made a salad. We added cucumber and tomato and onions and the onions made everyone cry. The grips are bear grip and bridge. Thank you helpers you take time out of your day to help us SAKG.
Annabelle - Today was the start of SAKG. I’m in the Tomatoes group. My group and I made Zucchini carbonara. We ate at 1:30pm and it tasted so good. All of the foods were great.
Gia - Today l made a salad and I cut a cucumber and a tomato.
Atticus - On our first day at kitchen gardening/SAKG. I was in tomatoes. Me and Hayden were grating parmesan because we were making pasta. We had to cut zucchini and capsicum strips. We had to do the bridge grip and the bear claw to cut the zucchini.
Brianna - Today l did cooking l made a salad and cut onions.
Gabriella - At Stephanie Alexander I made a salad. What was in the salad was spicy. Today I made a sausage roll.
Thalia - Today I made the main meal and I cut up the zucchini and garlic.
