Captains' Corner

Hey Norwood Community, welcome back to 2026 and we are looking forward to continuing the Captain's Corner page in the newsletter. Here you will find regular updates about what is going on at Norwood from our incredible student leaders. We are thrilled to write the first edition of the year and give you all an insight into the first couple weeks of Year 12.

The first day of classes for this year was one of excitement as we get ready to start our final year of high school. Receiving our Year 12 jackets only added to this buzz! The Year 12 jackets are something our year level have looked forward to wearing since we started here in Year 7. Having them on only makes it feel all the more real that we are now the most senior students at Norwood. We can’t wait for all that this year has to offer!

During the whole school assembly on the first Thursday back, every Year 12 student received their XII badge. This symbolises the fact that we are all leaders of the school and a reminder that younger students look up to and follow our actions.

Last Friday, the 2026 prefect team underwent leadership training by a guest speaker Darren. Darren led us through an engaging session about how the least memorable moments for one person can have a significant impact on another. His message was to do the little things often to hopefully have a positive outcome on the most people. This is a form of leadership that everyone can take on.

The prefect team also had a leadership meeting that day as well, for us to set goals for the year. We discussed what we want to achieve and what our legacy as the class of 2026 will be. There were some amazing conversations and even better ideas… so stay tuned!

Our swimming carnival is coming up and the Year 12’s are looking forward to showing off their costumes and thrashing the teachers in the student vs teacher relay!
