Welcome Back & Wellbeing at Norwood Secondary College

Welcome back to the new school year! We hope all students and families had a chance to rest, recharge, and enjoy the break. As we return to school routines, it’s completely normal for students to experience a mix of emotions, excitement, motivation, and sometimes a few nerves or worries as they settle back in.

A gentle reminder that the Wellbeing Team is here to support students throughout the year, whether they’re navigating friendships, managing stress or anxiety, or just needing a space to check in and reset.

How the Wellbeing Team Can Help

Students can access wellbeing support for everyday challenges such as:

  • Friendship or social difficulties

  • Feeling anxious, worried, or overwhelmed

  • Managing emotions or behaviour at school

  • Low motivation, confidence, or engagement in learning

At times, students may receive brief, in-the-moment support if they are feeling distressed at school. In other situations, support may involve helping students regulate, problem-solve, and build confidence before returning to class. Where concerns are more significant, families will be contacted to work together on next steps.

How to Access Support

Students can access the Wellbeing Team in several ways:

  • By requesting a check-in directly with a member of the Wellbeing Team

  • By speaking with a trusted staff member (such as a Mentor Teacher, Coordinator, or Head of Year Level) who can make a referral

  • Through staff-initiated check-ins if a student appears to be struggling

Parents and carers who have concerns about their child’s wellbeing are encouraged to contact the Head of Year Level or Year Level Coordinator to discuss support options.

Wellness Wednesdays

A reminder that Wellness Wednesdays run every Wednesday and are a great opportunity for students to connect with others, become familiar with the wellbeing space, and enjoy a small treat in a relaxed environment. This is a welcoming, low-pressure way for students to build connections and engage with wellbeing supports.

We are also proud to introduce our Wellness Wednesday Leaders, Marissa Wilkie and Sarah Otten from Year 12. Marissa and Sarah are friendly, approachable faces who will be present at Wellness Wednesdays each week, always willing to help, have a chat, and ensure everyone feels welcome and included in the space.

As we begin the year, we encourage students to reach out early if they need support and to remember that looking after wellbeing is an important part of setting themselves up for a successful year ahead.
