Feast of St Joseph

Yesterday, students, staff and parents gathered as a whole school community to celebrate the feast of St Joseph. Students attended Mass and engaged in fun activities that highlighted St Joseph as a carpenter. One word to sum up this day was, ENGAGEMENT. All students were so incredibly engaged in their hands-on activities as they spoke about the qualities of St Joseph.

  • Year 5 taught their Kindergarten buddies the actions to our school song, “Truth and light”. Students then used wooden blocks and Lego to construct scenes and objects from their own imagination.

  • Year 6 and Year 4 welcomed Sharyn- The Educational Outreach Officer at Bunnings Bellambi who enthusiastically taught them how to make a cross using wood, nails and string. Their creations were unique and students had great fun persisting!

  • Year 1 then worked with their Year 6 buddies along with Year 3 to construct cute “Block buddies”, using wood, screws, hooks and tacks.

  • Year 4 discussed how the lily symbolises integrity and that Saint Joseph was the earthly spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. They made lillies using the outline of their hand.

  • Year 2 students engaged in a number of activities from beading, to paper craft to drawing.

We especially thank Sharyn from Bunnings Bellambi for dedicating her time and energy to working with Year 4 and Year 6. All of the students were extremely proud of what they constructed and some want to try it again at home; perhaps as a weekend project!
