Extended Absence

In recent school newsletters, we have included information regarding the new CEDoW Attendance Policy and Procedures and we would like to further outline the procedures for Extended Absence requests, in particular, those relating to travel within Australia or overseas.

As noted in the Fact Sheet below, parents must complete a Notification of Extended Absence form and submit it to the Principal via the school office prior to the student taking an extended absence from school for more than five days.

The Principal (or delegate) then either accepts or does not accept the explanation for the absence. Regardless of this decision, the school will issue an Acknowledgement of Extended Absence to the parent and the parent makes the final decision to proceed with the extended absence.

Specific information is taken into consideration when either accepting or not accepting requests, namely:

  • the student's attendance record at the time

  • extenuating circumstances whereby the student or family may be involved in  Department of Communities and Justice referrals or hearings etc

  • the School Calendar whereby the absence of a student will impact their learning, faith and wellbeing even more than usual

If the extended absence is accepted, the absence will be recorded as an explained absence. If the extended absence is not accepted, the absence will be recorded as an unjustified absence.

We welcome any queries regarding Extended Absences through the school office.

Mountain Biking News

In Week 6, Liam Tacon from Year 6 returned to Thredbo to compete in the Australian MTB Interschools Competition for 2025. It was another week of action packed racing as Liam took to the mountain to compete in the challenging enduro, downhill and pump track events. Liam competed against world class riders from schools across the country, showcasing his tenacious riding skills while managing the treacherous terrain. In such a competitive event with over 250 students in his division, Liam's final results were outstanding. He qualified into the finals for the Pump Track event where he placed 16th. In the All Mountain Enduro Race he placed 37th, and he was in the top 50 riders of the Fox Flow downhill race. The finishing times in each event come down to the difference of just milliseconds between each rider. Well done to Liam for proudly representing St.Joseph's Catholic School Bulli at the 2025 MTB Interschools Competition!

Diocesan Swim Selection Trials

It was a lovely day at the pool for the Diocesan Selection Trials last Friday. The SJB students were highly competitive and represented our school extremely well. We congratulate all swimmers and give special mention to Mya C, Jack E and Jimmy R, who did an outstanding job filling in for absent swimmers in the Junior and Senior Relay teams.

The following students qualified to make the Diocesan Swim Team, and we wish them the best of luck in competing at the MacKillop Trials.

Stella K, Archer T, Isikeli, Keon, Allegra B and the Senior Boys (Hamish B, Archer T, Saul O, Keon W) and Junior Girls (Madeline B, Arlo B, Allegra B and Isla J ) relay teams.

Congratulations to Keon W, who was awarded 2nd place in the Age Champion Point Score at the South Coast Carnival.
