At the end of last year we reviewed where we are at with our 2023-27 School Strategic Plan (SSP), we identified and celebrated the achievements we made last year and then set our next steps for action. These steps are targets set under our two main AIP goals for this year as highlighted here in our 2025 AIP.
We are continuing to develop staff knowledge and skills to teach literacy through the Comprehensive Literacy for All approach. This year we have engaged with literacy and special education consultant, Helen Tanish. Helen will work alongside teachers in the classroom and follow up feedback sessions, as well as deliver PL through staff workshops.
As part of the building project we have incorporated some aboriginal artwork. We have engaged with artist, Michelle Searle. Michelle has created these beautiful and engaging pieces of art that captures our house colours and animals.
We will introduce a new Library specialist program from the start of term 2. The program will initially focus on all classes transitioning to our new library and learning how we use the library for everyone to enjoy books. Students will be read to and given the opportunity to explore, look and read the many books in this space.
Friday 30 May will be a Curriculum Day for staff to have their Professional Practice Day. School council endorsed this day as having the least impact on the students and families.
There have been local council parking inspectors in the area who have issued parking fines to cars parked outside signed areas.
We understand that parking is challenging at the moment with the building works and contractor cars in the area. We encourage parents to observe and follow the street signage. Parents and carers are welcome to enter the driveway after the buses, on most days they have left by 9am. We have designated parent parking spots that can be use between 9am and 2:35pm.
If you would like to talk about parking options further, please come and see Judith McDonald or myself.
Following our AGM on Monday night we held our first school council meeting with our school council body for 2025. During the meeting our new office bearers were elected;
President - Bec Gilmore
Vice President - Kathryn Van Winden
Treasurer - Cindy Livermore
We look forward to working in partnership with our school council throughout the year to continue developing an excellent educational environment at Croydon SDS.
Kyle, our new front office and IT support staff member has been meeting with new parents and carers to the school to go through a Compass Induction. We are now offering an individual Compass induction session to other parents and carers across the school. If you would like to make an appointment for an induction, please contact Kyle at the front office; phone 9725 4933 or email the school, croydon.sds@education.vic.gov.au
