Global Citizenship

At Kambala, we believe that global education is essential in shaping students into compassionate, informed, and responsible citizens of the world. In the Junior School, our approach to global learning goes beyond geography and history; it fosters cultural awareness, critical thinking, and an appreciation of diverse perspectives. By engaging with international issues, exploring different traditions, and collaborating with peers across the globe, our students develop the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.  In 2025 our teachers will work with our Director of Curriculum to meaningfully embed the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals into our teaching and learning programs from Year 3 to Year 6.

 

Recently we announced that Kambala is the only school in Australia to introduce the Global Citizenship Diploma (GCD) as an offering in our Senior School.  The GCD serves as a formal credential that recognises and certifies a student's commitment to the values and competencies of global citizenship. This program encourages students to engage in meaningful projects that promote sustainability, social justice, and cultural exchange. Through hands-on learning experiences, service initiatives, and cross-cultural discussions, the GCD nurtures a deep sense of responsibility and empathy, empowering students to take action and make a difference in their communities and beyond.

 

By embedding the Global Citizenship Diploma into our curriculum, Kambala continues its commitment to preparing young learners for the complexities of the 21st century. This initiative not only enriches our students’ academic journey but also instils the values of respect, collaboration, and ethical leadership. As we embrace this new chapter in global education, we look forward to seeing our students grow into confident, thoughtful individuals who are ready to contribute to a better world.

Kindergarten Literacy and Numeracy Information Morning over Zoom - Monday 3 March 2025 - 9.00 - 10.00am

National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy - NAPLAN - Year 3 and Year 5

NAPLAN provides an understanding of how individual students are performing at the time of the tests. NAPLAN assesses literacy and numeracy skills that students have already learnt through the school curriculum. Teachers will provide appropriate support and guidance, including ways to become familiar with the format and functionality of the online platform. 

 

Students in Years 3 and 5 will sit the NAPLAN tests on the following dates:

 

Wednesday 12 March- Writing

Friday 14 March- Reading 

Tuesday 18 March- Conventions of Language (spelling, grammar and punctuation)

Thursday 20 March- Numeracy 

Friday 21 March- catch up testing for absentees

 

Students in Year 3 will complete the Writing test using pencil and paper. Year 3 students will answer the other test questions on their school iPad. Students in Year 5 will answer all their test questions on their school laptop. All students will need their own headphones.

 

Preparation at home is not required and can lead to unnecessary anxiety. The best way you can help your child prepare for NAPLAN is to reassure them that NAPLAN tests are just one part of our school’s learning and assessment program, and to advise them to simply do the best they can on the day.  A good night’s sleep, punctual school arrival and healthy breakfast are the best ways to set the girls up for success. Students and parents can access the Public Demonstration Site to familiarise themselves with NAPLAN and the types of questions and tools available. After NAPLAN testing is complete, the Years 3 and 5 girls will enjoy time away at camp.

Years 4 - 6 Term 2 2025 Saturday Sports Choice

We are pleased to share the Term 2, 2025 sports options for students in Years 4-6. You can access the official letter detailing all available choices here.

 

Please review the document carefully, as it outlines multiple sports options. At the bottom of each section, you will find a link to the Google registration form, which must be completed to secure your child’s participation.

 

The registration deadline is Monday March 10, by 4:00pm.

 

The available sports for Term 2, 2025, include:

  • IPSHA Minkey/Hockey
  • IPSHA Netball

Years 2, 3 & 5 Writers Workshop

Students in Years 2, 3, and 5 spent time last week with Australian author Kristin Darell, in a writer’s workshop exploring characters and using their characters to build stories.

 

The girls thought out and initiated all aspects of an original and creative story, including building a believable character, constructing a brilliant beginning, planning a story arc, and finishing with an epic ending. 

 

The girls across Years 3 and 5  were quick to jot ideas, use their senses, and plan exciting episodes, whilst those in Year 2 developed individual characters ready for an adventurous story to be written about them.

 

Imogen Year 5:

Kristin Darell was creative and kind and brought out the best in our writing.

I enjoyed writing in the booklet, Kristin Darell was very organised.

 

Amelia Year 5

Kristin Darell understood our writing even when it didn’t follow the same storyline as everyone else's. She didn’t expect all of our writing to be the same.
