Welcome...
...to this week's newsletter!
While these greetings represent just a small part of our amazing culturally-diverse school community, we look forward to celebrating diversity during Harmony Day tomorrow.
Banyule Primary has once again been a busy place with things like athletics days, NAPLAN and a fire drill all happening since our last edition.
The School Review is now complete...
This was a tremendously positive experience for all involved. As expected, our teachers and staff absolutely blew the panel away with their professionalism, knowledge and passion. The panel were impressed with the school's leadership, teaching and learning practices, wellbeing and engagement initiatives. It was extremely validating to receive such high praise from experienced educators who are external to the school. It has been rewarding to know that our efforts to support our students to grow socially, emotionally and academically are making a great difference.
NAPLAN...
Today also marks the completion of NAPLAN for our Year 3 and 5 students. We thank the staff involved and the flexibility needed to make this happen and ensure that our students have optimal conditions to ensure they are able to do their best. It is important to remember that this is only one measure of what a child can do on one particular day. Our teachers are highly skilled at using multiple assessment tools and data sets throughout the year to understand students' needs. If you ever have concerns about how your child is going, contacting the classroom teacher will provide the most accurate information, however our teachers are always proactive in ensuring any concerns are shared with parents.
Attendance:
We know happy kids learn. We also know that present kids learn. The following table was recently shared by the Department to help schools promote the importance at being at school. We have added our current attendance figures to show you how Banyule is going. We know from time to time that students will be absent due to illness, we do, however, have a very high rate of students missing school for extended family holidays. It's important to reflect on the educational, social and emotional importance of being at school and on-time as much as possible.
Welcome to our new Business Manager...
We are very happy to report that our new Business Manager, Jane O'Riley, has started. Jane has worked as a BM for a number of years and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role. It's great to have Jane as part of the BPS team!
Out in the playground...
We edge ever-so close to our new TigerTurf basketball court, with workers starting in just over a weeks time! During this project, our outdoor basketball court will be out of action, with fencing impacting movement around the school during the last 5 days of term. We're now all VERY well trained at navigating 'under-construction' areas and can't wait to return in Term 2 to our brand new basketball court!
Our new playground area has just received the Departmental-go-ahead needed to begin drainage works, so we also look forward to seeing some 'action' in this space!
Have a great weekend and we'll see you around.
Natalie, Claire and Sam
