Grade 4

Literacy
In Reading, we have been continuing with our novel Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo, delving deeper into Michael’s incredible journey and the challenges he faces. Alongside this, we have explored the important issue of deforestation and the plight of orangutans, researching the impact of habitat loss and the ways we can help protect these incredible creatures. This learning has been invaluable in developing our writing, as we use our newfound knowledge to craft thoughtful and informative pieces on the topic. It has been inspiring to see the children so engaged and passionate about these real-world issues!
In Writing, students wrapped up their persuasive pieces. Students had strong arguments as to why we should be saving our forests and stopping deforestation! We look forward to moving onto Narrative writing, as we move onto our next novel study ‘Leo and Ralph’.
Integrated
The students are still looking at the Indigenous peoples of Australia. They will be looking at how they lived in the wild. The students will be designing and creating their own small scale versions of the Indigenous housing over the next few weeks.
Spelling
Spelling has seen the students looking at prefixes and suffixes and when to double a letter when adding a suffix. They have been doing a program called spellex which they are familiar with from last year.
Maths
These last two weeks, our Grade 4 students are diving into the exciting world of fractions! They're learning how to compare, convert, add, and subtract fractions using fun activities like pizza slices, number lines, and hands-on games. Ask your child to show you how to split a snack into equal parts—it’s a tasty way to practice at home! Keep up the great work, young mathematicians!
