Art

These past few weeks, our Prep students embarked on a journey of self-discovery and creativity as they worked on art projects that explored their identities. Through the creation of self-portraits, family portraits, and collages of their homes, the students were given the opportunity to express who they are and what is important to them.

The self-portrait project allowed each student to reflect on their own features and personality, while the family portraits provided a chance for them to celebrate the people they love and care about. The collages of their homes gave them an opportunity to share what makes their home special and unique! The Preps are settling in very well and we look forward to what they achieve next in our Art space.

The past two sessions in the art room have been full of creativity and collaboration for our Grade 1 students! Inspired by Spanish artist Joan Miró, they have been working in small groups to create large-scale collages using the three primary colours. Together, they discussed and decided on shapes to cut or tear and where to place them, practicing important skills like listening, sharing ideas, and taking turns.

This week, students put the finishing touches on their artworks by exploring lines with black paint. Before painting on their collages, they practiced on separate paper—and those practice pieces are just as wonderful as the final artworks!

The last big decision was choosing the shape of their finished pieces. After thoughtful discussions, each group made their choice and left me with the final cutting step. Stay tuned to see the completed masterpieces!
