Year 7 Camp
By Katie Cook
After a brief postponement due to the bushfires, our Year 7 students, Year 12 VET Sport, Aquatic & Recreation students, and dedicated teachers finally set off for an unforgettable adventure at Roses Gap Recreation Camp in the stunning Grampians. The Year 7 Camp plays a vital role in helping students establish friendships, build confidence, and create a strong sense of belonging at Warrandyte High School—and this year’s camp was an absolute triumph!
From the moment they arrived, students embraced every challenge thrown their way, stepping outside their comfort zones with determination and enthusiasm. Whether it was soaring through the air on the giant swing, conquering their fears on the abseiling wall, or stacking crates sky-high, they tackled each activity with courage and excitement.
The adventure didn’t stop there! A breathtaking bushwalk through the Grampians National Park provided students with the opportunity to soak in the incredible scenery while developing resilience and teamwork. The low ropes course, raft building, and canoeing tested their problem-solving and communication skills, strengthening friendships with every paddle stroke and balancing act.
Camp Highlights – Student Favourites:
Giant Swing & Abseiling – Thrill-seekers faced their fears and loved every second!
Bushwalk – A perfect mix of adventure, getting to know each other, and stunning views and waterhole.
Raft Building, Low Ropes & Canoeing – Hilarious moments and great teamwork made these activities stand out.
As the sun set, the fun continued with night time activities run by our fantastic Year 12 VET REC students. Kickball, ultimate vortex, and a fiercely competitive tug-of-war had everyone laughing and cheering. The ultimate showdown—Year 7 students vs. Year 12s & teachers—was a battle for the ages, with the Year 7s proving too strong, claiming a well-deserved victory!
The second night brought trivia night, where students teamed up to test their knowledge across a range of topics. The energy in the room was electric as teams debated answers, celebrated correct guesses, and even learned some surprising new facts!
A Special Shoutout to Our Amazing VET REC Leaders!
Our Year 12 VET REC students played a huge role in making the camp a success, stepping up to lead activities, support groups, and showcase their leadership skills. Their efforts didn’t go unnoticed—camp staff were blown away by their professionalism, enthusiasm, and the way they connected with and supported the Year 7 students throughout the three days.
An Unforgettable Experience!
Camp was filled with laughter, challenges, and lifelong memories. Students stepped up, faced new experiences, pushed past their limits, and walked away with new friendships, valuable skills, and stories they’ll be telling for years to come.
A massive thank you to all the staff, students, and especially our VET REC leaders for making the 2025 Year 7 Camp such an incredible experience!
