Principal's Desk

Dear Warrandyte High School Community

Welcome to the first addition of the Warrandyte High School Gang Gang newsletter for 2025. It is with great pleasure that I write my first entry as Acting Principal of Warrandyte High School. As we near the conclusion of term 1 we take pause to give thought to the goals and aspirations for this school year. Our overarching theme for 2025 is ‘Growth’. We understand and acknowledge that growth comes in many forms. In 2025 we want to unlock and strengthen in each student their ability to possess the power of a growth mindset, the desire to take on new challenges, and contribute the school and local community in a positive way.

At WHS we look to our school values of Excellence, Integrity and Respect as the foundational elements of what we stand for. Our commitment to them aligns with our intent to always strive to be better people and more productive contributors to our school community.

Learning will always be our driving purpose at WHS. Our dedication to strong, evidence-based teaching and learning approaches remains at the heart of everything we do. Through our dedicated staff, we focus on the delivery of proven strategies, maintain high expectations, and aim to support every student in reaching their full potential. Equally important is our emphasis on student wellbeing. We believe that a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment is essential for learning, and we will continue to prioritise initiatives that nurture the mental, emotional, and social development of our students.

Term one has been filled with excitement and many important highlights. On day one we warmly welcomed our new cohort of Year 7 students, who are settling in wonderfully and embracing the opportunities ahead of them. Our school swimming carnival was a fantastic day of spirited competition and camaraderie, showcasing the skills and enthusiasm of our students. The Year 7 camp provided an excellent opportunity for our newest students to build friendships, challenge themselves, and develop a strong sense of belonging.

We are also pleased to acknowledge the successful completion of NAPLAN, a key assessment that provides valuable insights into student learning and progress. Our senior students remain dedicated to their studies and act as leaders of the school by setting a positive example. Additionally, we are thrilled to be bringing to you our 2025 school production – Alice in Wonderland Jr. The excitement is already building, and the announcement of the cast will promise to reveal the incredible talent within our student body.

This coming Wednesday we showcase this wonderful school through our annual Open Night. We welcome prospective families to our school to see the many special programs and opportunities our students have. They will experience the enthusiasm and creativity in our classrooms, they will speak with our teachers, meet our wonderful students, and ask questions.

As we look ahead, I am filled with optimism for the year to come. Together, as a united school community, we will continue to strive for excellence and growth in all areas. I encourage all students, staff, and families to remain engaged, support one another, and take advantage of the many opportunities this year and by extension Warrandyte High School has to offer.

We look forward with excitement to the many other big things ahead in 2025 for our year of ‘Growth’.
