Learning Walk: A Snapshot of Maths in Action!

This week’s learning walk provided me with a  a fantastic opportunity to see students across different year levels actively engaged in Maths. It was inspiring to witness the enthusiasm and dedication of both students and teachers as they tackled various mathematical concepts in their classrooms.

In Year 5, students were deep in discussions about Factors and Multiples, using practical strategies to break down numbers and identify their relationships. The level of engagement was evident as they worked through problem-solving activities and shared their reasoning with peers.

Meanwhile, in Year 1, students were developing a strong foundation in Place Value. Hands-on activities and interactive discussions helped students grasp the importance of numbers and their place value position, setting the stage for future mathematical understanding. It was most pleasing to walk into the Year One class and witness students learning their numbers in Italian during their Italian specialist time too.

In Year 4, students demonstrated their growing independence as they completed their fractions tasks with confidence. Their ability to work through problems and apply their knowledge independently was a testament to their progress and understanding.

A highlight across many classrooms was the use of whiteboards for full class participation. It was fantastic to see students eagerly contributing, solving problems together, and making their thinking visible in real time. This interactive approach not only encouraged collaboration but also helped students refine their understanding through shared learning experiences.

The learning walk was a wonderful reminder of the dynamic and engaging maths teaching happening across our school. Well done to all students and teachers for their hard work and enthusiasm in making Maths come alive in the classroom!
