Challenge Week

Year 8

Challenge Week 2025 has come to an end, and what an unforgettable week it has been for our Year 8 students!

From Mon 3 to Fri 7 March,  students embarked on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth, embracing new challenges and pushing their boundaries in ways that will stay with them for years to come.

This year’s theme, "Challenge" was at the heart of every activity. The goal was to inspire resilience, motivation, and the drive to achieve personal bests, both inside and outside of school. Over the course of the week, our Year 8 students took part in five exciting and diverse excursions that tested their physical, intellectual, creative, and social limits. And they did not disappoint!

Here’s a recap of the thrilling activities that students participated in throughout Challenge Week:

Bike Riding &

The 'Unboxy Challenge' at KIOSC

Students participated in an energetic bike ride around the local area. Students demonstrated impressive teamwork and endurance as they pedalled their way around Wantirna, Boronia and Knox. The 'Discovery Challenge' at KIOSC added a creative twist, where students had to think critically and work collaboratively to solve complex puzzles that focussed on Artificial Intelligence and it's impact.

Canoeing/Kayaking &

Geocaching at Lilydale Lake Reserve

The students made their way to Lilydale Lake Reserve, where they took to the water in kayaks and canoes. Whether paddling solo or in pairs, students embraced the challenge of navigating the water whilst playing water games that were lots of fun. They also participated in a thrilling geocaching treasure hunt, using maps to search for clues, which was both educational and a fun way to engage with the outdoors.

1000 Steps Bush walk &

Outdoor Laser Tag in The Basin

Students tackled the 1000 Steps bush walk, a challenging yet rewarding experience that tested their stamina and determination. The hike through the beautiful Dandenong Ranges was followed by a fast-paced and strategic outdoor laser tag battle in The Basin. Students demonstrated great teamwork and strategy as they worked together to out manoeuvre their opponents in a friendly but competitive environment.

Cable Park Aqua Challenge Course &

High Ropes

The excitement continued with an adrenaline-filled day at the Cable Park, where students navigated the Aqua Challenge Course and took on the high ropes course. For many, this was a moment to face their fears and step out of their comfort zones. Whether they were balancing on ropes high above the ground or trying to stay dry on the water course, the students showed immense bravery and determination throughout the day.

Tree Surfing at Trees Adventure in Belgrave

Lastly, students tackled the ultimate adventure at Trees Adventure in Belgrave. Tree surfing and high ropes courses took the students to new heights—literally! It was a fitting end to a week of challenges, as students cheered each other on and celebrated their successes in navigating the treetop obstacles.

A Week of Personal Growth

Challenge Week was not just about completing activities; it was about growing as individuals and as a group. Through every excursion, our Year 8 students learned valuable lessons in perseverance, teamwork, and self-confidence. They stepped out of their comfort zones, faced their fears, and achieved things they might not have thought possible. The resilience they demonstrated throughout the week is a testament to the theme of Challenge Week -"Challenging Yourself."

We are incredibly proud of each and every one of our Year 8 students for their commitment, enthusiasm, and bravery throughout this week of adventure. As they continue to face challenges both inside and outside the classroom, we hope that the lessons learned during Challenge Week will stay with them and inspire them to continue striving for their personal best.

Congratulations to all the students for making Challenge Week 2025 a resounding success! We look forward to seeing how they continue to grow and challenge themselves in the future
