What’s Happening in the Kitchen?

It’s been another busy and exciting fortnight in the Oatlands kitchen! We’re thrilled to introduce our Kitchen Leaders, who have been an incredible help this term:

Aiden (6RF)Leena (6RF)Faith (6EH)Oliver (6JR)

Our leaders volunteer at recess on Tuesdays and Thursdays to lend a hand, and we couldn’t do it without them! They help keep everything running smoothly while students and teachers get busy cooking up a storm.

Here’s a taste of what’s been happening in our kitchen classes lately:

🍐 Grade 1 students have been making pear pikelets, learning how to grate fruit safely.

🍫 Grade 2 are baking choc chip muffins, focusing on the folding technique—practicing gentle mixing for fluffy muffins!

🌽 Grade 3 are whipping up corn fritters and chopping fresh spring onions straight from our kitchen garden. Such great little chefs!

🍪 Grade 4 are baking our famous choc chip cookies, using a special recipe from Marguerite Jones, after whom our Oatlands Kitchen is proudly named.

🥢 Grade 5 are creating spring rolls, learning how to finely chop their veggies and carefully roll the filling and wrappers.

Our Kids in the Kitchen program is also going strong! Students have been making apple pikelets and veggie muffins, working together in teams of three. Each student has an important role, and it’s been fantastic seeing their teamwork in action.

🌱 Our Veggie Garden is Thriving!

The Oatlands Kitchen garden is looking absolutely amazing at the moment! Our spring onions, silver beet, and herbs are bursting with colour and flavour, and the students love harvesting fresh ingredients to use in their cooking. It’s wonderful to see how proud they are of what they’ve grown. We’re already planning what to plant next—so watch this space!

🍪 Recipe of the Fortnight: Our Famous Chocolate Chip Cookies!

These cookies have been a huge hit with Grade 4, and now you can try them at home. This is Marguerite Jones’ special recipe, and they always disappear fast!

Enjoy these delicious cookies with a glass of milk or share them with friends—if there are any left to share!

Well done to everyone who’s been part of the fun—our kitchen is full of learning, laughter, and delicious food! Stay tuned for more garden updates and tasty recipes next fortnight.
