Grade 5

The Grade 5 Team are very proud of the manner in which our students have started their year in Grade 5; they continue to grow into their role as senior school students, showing their ability to adapt to expectation and upholding our school values. We are incredibly grateful this year to be supported by Mark, Samantha, Andi, Gaby and Bec, who will provide invaluable assistance to everyone in our year level.

Working through our Setting Up For Success program has enabled our students to create Class Contracts that shape the way they want their class to be this year. Our Friendology sessions are empowering our students to consider their friendships and what they mean to them. Remembering that everybody deserves Green Zone friendships aims to help students reflect on healthy friendships and how important they are to their wellbeing.

Our English sessions have involved our students working through the roles for our upcoming Term 2 Literature Circles. Writing has focused on narrative and persuasive texts, while spelling continues to follow the SMART Spelling process.

Maths in Term 1 has involved students working with the four operations, where methods for double digit multiplication were learnt, as well as the process of short division. Perimeter, area and volume were an underlying focus on place value through the four operations weaves itself through all the maths our students do and will do.

Our Integrated Studies unit of Community has been of high interest to our students; the focus has been on the concept of Government, including the Principles of Democracy and the levels of government.

Congratulations to our Grade 5 students who attended the Oatlands Swimming Carnival in Week 2; many went on to compete at both the District and Division levels, with Regionals next for those successful at Division - we wish you all the very best. Our highly anticipated first Buddy session with our Prep Buddies was a wonderful experience for all; we look forward to many more sessions throughout the year where our Grade 5 students will work closely with their Prep Buddy, showing the leadership skills we know they possess.
