EISM Swimming Competition

Emma McLaren, PE Teacher

Congratulations to the entire swimming squad who contributed to Kilvington’s best-ever result - coming 3rd at the EISM Swimming Competition!

Our swimmers were very dedicated this term, with lots of students attending before-school swim training twice a week for a month. The intensity and effort during these trainings held us in great stead leading up to the EISM competition.

Congratulations to Annie and Mary Steele who took many first-place results and to Ben Huang who broke the EISM record for the under 15s 50m breaststroke.

A special mention to Year 12 students Liam Molloy and Greta Saville who came first in each of their individual events for their final time representing Kilvington at the EISM Swimming Competition!

2024 Senior House Athletics Carnival

Luke Bahramis, Head of Sport

The Senior House Athletics Carnival was held on a hot and windy day on Tuesday, although you wouldn’t know the conditions were unfavourable by the energy, smiles and competitiveness of the students throughout the day.

The overall winner on the day was Fysh, who were glad to take back the mantle of champions after such a close finish at House Swimming.

The day began with some hurdles mishaps due to the wind, but once the field events were well under way we started to see some amazing results.

Congratulations to all those competitors who had been working hard behind the scenes at early morning training sessions as well as our 14 record breakers on the day!

Well done to:

  • Liam Molloy – Shotput and Discus
  • Willow Devine – 800m and 1500m
  • Alex Moore – High Jump
  • Alice Hollingsworth – 200m and 100m
  • Christina Konstantinidis – 200m
  • Max Pogreb – Long Jump
  • Owen Nguyen – Long Jump
  • Marcel Krivonos – High Jump
  • Cameron Bowmen – Discus
  • Grace Mossman – 800m
  • Fysh House - 4 x 100m relay team

Special mention to the Year 12 cohort who put on a show in their finest dress-ups on the day, and to the House Deans and Captains who worked tirelessly to fill every race with competitors.

Senior summer sport - Grand Final results

Luke Bahramis, Head of Sport

The senior summer season has come and gone in the blink of an eye.

Kilvington once again produced some fantastic results, with four out of our 14 teams reaching the Grand Final.

It was great to see more than 80% of the Year 12 cohort taking up a summer sport in their final year at Kilvington. Watching them have great success while always having a smile on their face has made the season very enjoyable.

Special mention goes to our Girls Indoor Cricket team (more affectionately known as the ‘Hippettes’) for reaching the Grand Final. The team is made up of a group of Year 12s, some of whom had never played cricket before!

Congratulations to our Boys Soccer, Boys Softball and Boys Basketball B team who all played off in their Grand Finals on Wednesday.

Grand Final scores:

  • Boys Softball: Lost 8-2
  • Boys Soccer: Won 2-0
  • Boys Basketball B: Won 45-35
  • Girls Indoor Cricket: Lost 100 – 57

Congratulations to all our teams.

Senior Girls Indoor Cricket - student reflections

These student reflections were written before the team's Grand Final, showcasing the journey leading up to the event.

Charlotte Fisher, Year 12

Playing in the Senior Girls Indoor Cricket team for Kilvington (aka 'The Hippettes') has been a real honour and a matter of character growth for all of us.

We've had a series of wins and one loss, and I truly believe that whatever the outcome, we've stuck together and just enjoyed our time as a team.

I've always felt that the energy coming from our team was positive, even if we swung and missed or dropped a catch, we would just focus on the next ball.

Together, we’ve had tonnes of laughs, smiles, high fives and cheering all contributing to our great overall spirit, making Wednesday afternoons a time I really look forward to.

A highlight for the whole team has been our team mascot, an inflatable hippopotamus costume (which we all have dressed up in) with a tutu to signify the true meaning behind the name ‘Hippettes’.

I’ve definitely become a lot closer with all the girls and I wouldn’t trade it for anything else. This season has been a heap of fun and hopefully will lead us to a great Premiership.

I am extremely proud that girls sport is becoming more prominent within this community, and that we (The Hippettes), are a part of it.

At the end of the day, we aren’t an elite women’s cricket team, but we have the bond as strong as one. Now it’s onto the Grand Final! Go Hippettes!

Rianne Darvell, Year 12

We had our first training session at the beginning of the term and there was already a strong determination to do well and even win the competition.

Our skills needed some work, but the first game showed us that we could do it if we worked together. We rotated bowling and keeping pairs, while having batting pairs sorted and everyone batting well!

We came out on top beating Oxley by 15 runs and pulling through with really high spirits for the coming weeks. We were back playing two weeks later at Oakleigh Indoor against Bialik. A new Hippette record partnership was scored, with Ruby and myself bringing up 81 runs between us, and Ruby achieving a half-century.

This was amazing to see as the majority of the team had never played before, and seeing girls playing cricket with massive smiles on their faces was really special.

We hope that we have changed indoor cricket at Kilvington for the future. It is really exciting to see the enjoyment and friendships that have come out of sport and indoor cricket.

I have loved to see so many of my friends participating, especially in our last year of school. I can’t wait to take on Huntingtower on Wednesday, with 'Miss Hippette' and everyone else who can come along to cheer us on!
