Lote

For the past two weeks, we have had a lot of fun consolidating our speaking and listening skills. Prep students have been learning some colours and numbers, as well as introducing themselves to others. Year 1 and 2 students have been doing lots of number practice - we are making a display that goes up to 50! - and practising sharing information about themselves.

Year 3 and 4 students have begun to look at time, and how Indonesian divides the day into four different categories, instead of am/pm. Year 5 and 6 students have been learning to discuss where people come from, and are looking at Indonesian names from different areas and the names of Indonesian cities and towns.

We have also been playing a lot of language games including Number Buzz, Who’s the Monkey?, Where’s the Colour? and a version of Snap to improve our language skills, and learning about Indonesia’s animals, dances and traditions.

Performing Arts

This last fortnight we have been learning a lot about musical notation, beat, rhythm, dynamics and pitch!

The junior school has enjoyed singing in various pitches, following a beat and rhythm using body percussion and instruments and the Prep students also had a special guest - Mr Smith! He taught us about the parts of the guitar and played some songs to sing and dance to.

Years 3 to 6 have been working in small groups to compose their own pieces of music using a 4/4 time signature and the notes they have learnt. They then had to perform for their peers and it was so wonderful to see the effort they all put into this task!

Musicians of the Week Awards

Belle F and Sophie K (5/6B)

This week I would like to especially acknowledge the amazing effort and performance of the above two students when completing their musical compositions. They put a lot of thought, great teamwork and effort into their work and performed brilliantly.

Amazing job girls!

Physical Education

This term, our students from Prep to Year 6 are embarking on an exciting physical education journey. From mastering fundamental movements to engaging in the fast-paced game of field hockey, each year level has something unique and exciting to look forward to. Let's dive into the highlights of this term's PE curriculum.

Prep: Mastering the Basics

Our Prep students are laying the groundwork for a lifetime of physical activity through the exploration of *Fundamental Movements*. This term, they are focusing on developing essential motor skills, including running, jumping, throwing, and catching. Through a variety of fun games and activities, students are not only enhancing their physical abilities but also learning about teamwork, cooperation, and the joy of movement. Encourage your little ones to show you their new skills – they’re eager to demonstrate what they’ve learned!

Year 1/2: Introduction to Field Hockey

In Years 1 and 2, students are being introduced to the dynamic world of *Field Hockey*. Starting with the basics, they're learning how to handle a hockey stick, control the ball, and work as a team. Safety, sportsmanship, and respect for equipment and peers are key components of their learning. Through mini-games and skill-building activities, students are developing coordination and agility.

Year 3/4: Building Field Hockey Skills

Students in Years 3 and 4 are taking their *Field Hockey* skills to the next level. Focusing on passing, dribbling, and shooting, they’re applying their fundamental skills in more complex game situations. Emphasis is also placed on understanding the rules of the game and developing strategies for both offense and defense.

Year 5/6: Advanced Field Hockey Techniques

Our Year 5 and 6 students are honing their *Field Hockey* expertise, focusing on advanced techniques and game strategies. This term, they're engaging in drills that improve their speed, precision, and tactical understanding of the sport. Leadership, communication on the field, and advanced rules comprehension are key areas of development.

Stay tuned for announcements about our House Cross Country and Athletics Day both being held in term 2.

Science Spotlight: Exploring the Wonders of Our World

We’re embarking on an exciting journey through the realms of science, from the foundational stones of scientific inquiry in Prep to the intricate webs of ecosystems in Years 5/6.

Prep: A First Glimpse into Science

Our youngest scientists in Prep have begun their scientific adventure with an *Introductory to Science*. This term, they're learning about what science is and how we use it to understand the world around us. Through hands-on activities, they're discovering the five senses and how these senses help us make observations—a key skill in the scientific process. They're filled with wonder as they explore, question, and learn about the natural world, setting the stage for a lifetime of curiosity and discovery.

Year 1/2: The Animal Kingdom Unleashed

In Years 1 and 2, students are taking a closer look at the animal kingdom with their unit on *Animal Classification*. They're learning to identify and classify animals into groups based on their characteristics, such as mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, and amphibians. Through interactive lessons and engaging projects, students are developing an understanding of the diversity of life forms and how animals are uniquely adapted to their environments. Be sure to ask your child about their favorite animal group and what fascinating facts they've discovered!

Year 3/4: The Cycle of Life

Students in Years 3 and 4 are diving into the captivating world of *Animal Life Cycles*. They're exploring the different stages of life that animals go through, from birth to adulthood. This unit highlights the marvels of metamorphosis in butterflies and frogs, the growth of reptiles with a focus on the creatures we have in our science room. Through observations, research projects, and presentations, students are gaining insights into the continuity of life and the factors that influence survival and reproduction in the animal kingdom.

Year 5/6: Ecosystem Explorers

Our senior students in Years 5 and 6 are becoming ecosystem explorers in their study of *Ecosystems and Their Impacts*. They're investigating different ecosystems around the globe, understanding the delicate balance that exists within each system, and learning about the roles and relationships between organisms. A significant focus of their study is on human impacts—both positive and negative—on these ecosystems and what measures can be taken to protect and preserve them for future generations. Students are engaging in critical thinking about conservation and sustainability, preparing them to be conscientious stewards of our planet.
