Around Our Level
Our Prep students are settling in well to school life, our classroom routines and expectations. It has been great to see so many happy faces arriving each day, ready to learn and excited to play with their buddies. This week our students have been playing independently at recess and second half of lunchtimes. A big thank you to all our Year 5 buddies for the wonderful role in supporting our children in the yard and in the classroom. We also celebrated the milestone of ‘10 Days of School’ and attended our very first whole school assembly.
In Reading and Writing, we have commenced the introductory lessons using the Science of Reading UFLI Program - an explicit and systematic phonics program. The children have been learning about vertical, horizontal, curved and slanted lines. We have been learning to write our upper-case letters, tracing letters, tracing our names and tracing activities to improve our fine motor coordination. In Reading we have been learning to use the title and picture clues to make text predictions. The children have borrowed books from the library to share at home.
In Maths, we have been learning about the numbers to 5. The children have been counting and making collections, ordering numbers in their correct sequence and writing the numbers to 5. We have used songs and games to further reinforce numbers to 5 and beyond.
Last week we spent the afternoon with our buddies. We went for a walk around the school and discussed school rules when playing in the yard and areas that are out of bounds. We completed a picture with our buddies to display in the classroom. We also shared an icy pole to thank our buddies.
In History, we are learning about families. Our classrooms have photos of the children’s families displayed and we recognise that all families are made up differently.
In Geography, we have been learning about man made and natural features.
We look forward to seeing many of our Prep families at our Prep Picnic at Warrien Reserve on Thursday 29th of February. This will be a wonderful opportunity to meet other parents and students in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Hope to see you all there.
Students are nominated by their teachers to receive a certificate of acknowledgment. The below student's certificates will be presented at our next assembly.
