Principal's Message

Ms Reynolds

Welcome to Autumn!

The school year has been underway for 6 weeks now and we are into the thick of things: deep learning is happening across all classrooms - with structures like Guided Reading small-group learning; Number Talks and maths lessons; Inquiry units of work; and routines for sharing our thinking - all features in every classroom across our school.

Staff are working hard on ensuring that every minute counts in terms of learning and that all students have access to high quality learning that matters.

Did you know?

Students in our current Kindy classes are turning 5 this year and are excited to be here.

BUT - we are not just educating them for today - we need to think about tomorrow...

Imagine this - they will leave GEPS as strong and proud Year 6 kids at the end of 2030...

They will then leave high school in December 2036...

Current life expectancy for people in Australia is 83 years. So these little Kindy students will still be living in the year 2102.

Our teaching and learning needs to give students the skills, knowledge, understanding - dispositions, values and thinking skills - to engage in society until the turn of the next century!

That's why we take our jobs so seriously! And that is why we focus on the basic skills, the higher order skills as well as the ability to learn how to learn.

We want GEPS kids to be critical thinkers, able to communicate and collaborate in the world and have the creativity to work with some of the changes (in tech and in the world) that they will face.

It's a big job - and we're up for it!
