This year Hillsmeade is bringing back the Easter egg and Easter bunny foil recycling competition. Last year we collected, and recycled, an amazing amount of aluminium foil. We are hoping to increase our total from last year and weigh each class ball to measure our recycling efforts.
Aluminium foil is recyclable, only if it is rolled into a ball the size of a tennis ball. Otherwise it is too light and flies off the conveyor belt at the recycling plant.
To get involved in the competition carefully peel your Easter egg and bunny foil and keep in one flat piece, bring this into your class and add it to your foil ball.
Competition will close the second week of Term 2.
Once the competition has ended you can keep recycling in your household - simply roll your clean aluminium foil into a ball. When it is larger than a tennis ball size you can put it into your curb side recycling bin.
Loom bands are becoming very popular at recess and lunch times in the school yard.
Just a reminder that these tiny little elastics can become a hazard for animals if they are left in the yard and not packed away. Birds and other animals can mistake them for food or become trapped in them. If you are bringing loom bands to school please make sure they are brought in a container so they can be easily packed up at bell time.
