Principal's Report

By Carolyn Serpell

Congratulations to all students who participated in last Friday's  Falls Creek MTB event.  From all the reports, this was a great day of racing and team work, with our team placing 3rd overall! A special mention to Mac, Queenie and Goldie, who respectively took out first, second and third place, in each of their events. It is always great to hear stories of sportsmanship, and I would also like to give a big shout out to Hugo, who stopped during his race, to help a fellow rider.  Thank you Hugo!

Finally, a big thank you and congratulations to JP, Karen, Phil, Matt and Claire, who represented our school in the parent's round!

The sporting achievements continued yesterday, when Annabelle, Peter and Mac participated at the Regional Swimming event in Shepparton. Congratulations to you all on making it to this level of competion and well done on your achievement!

Thank you to all those families who made the time to attend a Parent Teacher conference this week. If you were unable to attend, please contact your child's teacher to make an alternate time.

NAPLAN commences next week, for all students in Years 3 and Years 5.  These assessments will be held over two weeks, commencing on Wednesday.

The ongoing support of our families ensures that our school can offer the best possible education and support for our students.  To assist with the delivery of our programs, each year we ask families to assist with the cost of purchasing the resources, students consume throughout the year.  We really appreciate your ongoing support in meeting these costs.  If your family requires assistance in making these payments, please contact the office to discuss your options.  Eligible families are also encouraged to apply for the  Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund | vic.gov.au (www.vic.gov.au).  Application forms can be collected from the office and need to be submitted before June 28, 2024.

The 18th - 26th March is Harmony Week, and students will be participating in a range of activities celebrating our cultural diversity and the importance of inclusiveness, respect and belonging.  As a celebration of our indigenous culture, on Tuesday 19th March, we will be joined by highly awarded dancer, Sermsah Bin Saad.  During the day, Sermsah will deliver a 'Liyan Nyikina' contemporary dance workshop (meaning ‘to connect to country and spirit'),  to help our students understand Aboriginal culture.  The workshops will reflect the tradition of dance conveying animals or cultural themes, and each group will have the opportunity to perform their own ceremonial dance.

We will be holding the Year 3-6 Cluster Athletics Carnival on Friday 22nd March, at the Les Peart Oval.  Volunteers are needed to assist with the running of events on the day.  If you can help out for some or all of the time, please let us know.

WANTED: OLD TENNIS RAQUETS!  The Mount Beauty Tennis Club is currently collecting old tennis racquets to create a special display at the club.  If you have any raquets to donate, please drop them off at the office.

From the 21-24 May, students in years 5/6 will be going on camp to Wilsons Prom. Throughout March, we will be fundraising to help subsidise this event. Many thanks to those families who have already offered to assist with this.  More information on how families can be involved, will be provided soon.
